I have just purchased Easy Media Creator 8 & im getting a message come up when WINDOWS XP starts up saying "CD RECORDING SOFTWARE HAS BEEN DISABLED AS IT MAY CAUSE WINDOWS TO BECOME UNSTABLE". Can anyone tell me what this means & what I have to do please.

Im using windows xp & my rewriter is made by freecom.I have tried to burn a cd but it gets so far then just freezes, this is due i suppose to the error message that I get when xp starts up.

SOME ONE HELP ME PELASE.

Many Thanks

I think this is the XP recording software that's disabling. If you open My Computer, right click on your drive,go to properties,go to the recording tab there is a place to put a check for "enable cd recording for this drive".See if your drive has a check mark or not.If it does, try unchecking it,rebooting and burning again.

I have tried what you said about ticking the box under the recording tab but this still dosent make any difference. What I have noticed is that if i take out the usb cable for the rewriter by unplugging it from the computer then starting windows xp i dont get the message off cd recording software has been diabled, so im thinking that the cable for the rewriter is the problem. Is there any way of getting an upgrade for this. its a Freecom rewriter that I have

I don't think it's gonna be the cable. The first thing to try is going to Freecom's site and making sure you have the latest version of firmware for your drive.I don't know what model you have or the version of your firmware so you'll have to check and see if you have the latest version yet.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS WHY IM GETTING THE "CD RECORDING SOFTWARE HAS BEEN DISABLED AS THIS CAN MAKE WINDOWS BECOME UNSTABLE" MESSAGE. BEEN ON FREECOMS WEBSITE & DONWLOADED LATEST DRIVER BUT I STILL GET THE SAME MESSAGE. IVE TRIED & TESTED EVERYTHING THAT PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME IN PREVIOUS MESSAGES ABOVE BUT STILL DOESNT WORK. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THEY THINK ITS MY COMPUTER WITH THE PROBLEM, THE EASY MEDIA CREATOR SOFTWARE OR THE REWRITERS SOFTWARE. PLEASE HELP.

Did your cap lock get broken too???

You mentioned just installing V8. What burning software did you have prior to V8?

Did you uninstall that software?

What is the "rewriters software" you are referring to in this message?

Previously to version 8 I had version 6 of easy cd creator. The rewriter is made by FREECOM & the model number is cd-rw 4424

At this point, I don't think any of us know how to solve this.

I suggest you call Tech Support to work this out one-on-one. Since this is an install problem, they will not charge you for the assist.

Please post back with the results, we are all curious by now!

I had done some more searching for someone else and on Microsoft's website it says this error can be caused by older versions of Roxio drivers causing the problem.Maybe it's the version 6 drivers that didn't get removed. They suggest uninstalling and reinstalling.I think in between you should try and run Roxizap to try and get rid of all references of Roxio. There is a long possible solution on their website involving a registry edit.BE CAREFUL if you try it.It involves upper and lower filters and some driver files.
