I own a copy of EMC 7.5. I just purchased a new computer which came pre-installed with Sonic DigitalMedia LE. Should I unnstall this first before installing EMC 7.5? Or does Sonic DigitalMedia LE have some features that EMC 7.5 does not? (I looked at the features list on the Roxio web page but had a hard time determining exactly what tools are in one and not the other). Would there be conflicts or two much redundancy if both are installed?

Thanks.

Since we're all just end users like you, I'd suggest you try Roxio Technical Support. Basically, we have no way of knowing what's in the Sonic DigitalMedia LE.

I would guess that the Sonic's Digitalmedia LE has limited functionability. I have read about the information regarding the full version of Sonic's Digitalmedia (http://www.roxio.com.../v7/index.jhtml). Generally the LE version is a watered down version of the full version. In Donics DMLE it appears you don't have the ability to edit video, etc.
Consequently, I would think Roxio 8 would have  more functions over Sonic's Digial media LE.

I agree.  Usually the SE version of any program that comes with a computer has limited functionality.

It's the "Would there be conflicts or two much redundancy if both are installed?"  question that probably needs to be answered by someone who knows how both programs work.

I am asking same question. I have new HP Multimedia computer that has Sonic Digitalmedia Plus V7, a limited edition. After contacting Roxio support with no response, i installed my EMC7.5 and it works okay because 7.5 is much more powerful. However, i cannot capture analog video with EMC7.5. i can with Sonic Digitalmedia. Spent one hour with HP tech support where I was advised to stick with Sonic DigitalMedia. Nero 6.6 also will not capture analog sound on this computer. So far, I have no conflicts with other functions.  Will be eager to find who else is having problems with analog. My computer has Conexant Falson Video Capture. Windows Movie Maker will not import sound on this device from analog cameras or VCRs.

I can't capture analog video, either.  I use the software that came with my capture card, I then take the captured file into VideoWave for editing.

Keep using the Sonic DigitalMedia to capture.  It looks like that is the software that the capture card was built around.  You can then use your captured files in VideoWave, if you want to edit them.

Bruce: another issue I have with Sonic capture. I get interrupted when transferring video from my analog camcorder by Macrovision. It halts my capture and occurs when there is an unrecorded gap on my camcorder tape between shooting sequences. I have searched everywhere and can not find if that can be disabled. I have to split what I am recording. Frustrating. Any idea if Macroivision cen be disabled?

I am experiencing the same problems.  I recently purchased HP with MultiMedia Center with Sonic Digitalmedia Plus V7.  I couldn't send Sonic an email because I don't know the serial number for it since it was preinstalled.  I have been able to capture from TiVo and burn to a DVD with My DVD, but was unable to create more than 6 chapters.  It would not let me go on to the next page.  I wonder if this is a software problem or maybe the limited version of the software.  I have not figured out how to capture from my VCR.  I am also wondering  which video editing software will let me get the video recorded from TV to the editing program.  The computer is not saving it where I expected it, under videos.  I have used Pinnacle 9 before and was thinking to upgrade, but am now wondering which video editting and burning software will support the Media Center and recorded TV the best.   I just started trying to capture from Tivo yesterday and when I record manually with Media Center, it names all the files and same and I can't figure out how to rename them yet.  Any ideas.

I know it's confusing, but Sonic has a separate support site for their products at www.sonic.com

You could also contact HP since the software came preinstalled on their computer.   Frequently, if there are problems with preinstalled software, the solution will be on the computer manufacturer's website
