:) When the DVD plays, there are routine points (average approx 20 secs) that the video skips back and repeats. I played the disc in three players...it's not the player.
EXAMPLE: Person dribbling basketball and all of a sudden they are 10 ft back or they take a shot and reshoot before rebounding!!!!
I thought maybe it was my rendering choice..."software" so I changed it to "hardware". The only difference was 1.5 hrs for hardware vs. 4 hrs for software. (I initally chose software since after using the "test" for hardware it automaticly re-chose software.
The DVD is built from mpeg files from my Sony DVD cam. This problem makes the DVD quite irritating to watch.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly apprectiated.

Thanks

First guess would be the media itself. If it plays OK in your PC then the burn is fine but it is still possible that, that particular disc is not working in your Players.

Some Players are sensitive to 'plus' or 'dash' type media and some seem to even have brand preferences!

To save a little money on discs, it is good to have a disc or 2 of RW to experiment with.

That was one of my 1st thoughts, but, the disk doesn't play OK in my PC either. I have used this same disc in other projects and it has worked just fine to play both copied DVD's and other non-DVD videos on the non-PC DVD player.
Disk: Memorex DVD +RW

PS: You are right....using a RW is the only way to go. I only use R's to copy my good RW's to. Another thing I've done is to create a few very small files to experiment with. Save's alot of wait time!

Most definitely try a different brand of media.

With an emphatic repley like that it sounds like you've had some problems with Memorex!!! Do you have any recommendations for RW media?

Most, but not all Memorex is lousy media due to no quality control in manufacturing the media. There are numerous manufacturers of Memorex media, but most of their media is made by CMC Magnetics, which is the poorest manufacturer out there. Some media that is labeled Memorex is good, but it is really hit or miss in getting the right manufacturer.

Try Verbatim or Ridata (Ritek). Maybe even Fuji. Once you find one that works well with your burner, use that brand/type until you have problems again.

Also, keep the firmware for your burner up to date.

You are welcome. Who are you rooting for in the Superbowl? I still haven't decided but leaning towards Pittsburgh.

Well, I'm from Eastern Washington....so 100% Seattle. But, if anybody has to win other than Seattle, I glad it's P-burgh since I'm a transplant.

I only had time to go to Wallyworld so I ended up with the only non-Taiwan disk they had.....Imation from India - Moser Baer..... :) .....yeh, I heard that...Good Luck. I've done some research and it looks like they are maybe slightly better than my Memorex's....at least it it was inexpensive. If it doesn't work, I'll take my list tommorrow and look for a better choice!

Well, the different RW's didn't help. Even though they aren't top notch, one thing makes me think that it isn't the media. In every case the problem showed up at exactly the same frame and went back in time to what appeared to be the same place. I find it hard to believe that problems with the media would show up in exactly the same way.
Since I didn't have this problem before I loaded the "patch" (although on simpler DVD's and copies) I am going to uninstall and reinstall the original only. I will also contact support throught the Chat method....I tried email 3 times with NO RESPONSE. Support from Roxio is a joke to be polite!

Thanks,

PS: my firmware is the latest available

Well, I'm in the middle of trying to fix things. About 5 months ago my WinXP got rather slow...nearly 5 minutes to boot. I did a repair from a CD boot at that time and things got better.

After uninstalling MC8, things started to get slow again. I wondered if maybe I had a virus so I installed a security suite from my service provider (had dusted McAfee earlier) and boom....BSOD on startup!
Started in safe mode, and nixed the security suite, did a WinXP repair (boot from the CD) and now things are working OK again.

Bottom line.....I have over 120 programs loaded on this machine which is way to many. Thus, I got a new HD last night and am going to start from scratch. This time I'm going to load WinXP on two different drives. One for business / MC8 with only basic needs. The other for all the extaneous "stuff" I get into. I can then just pick which drive to boot from at startup and with luck I should always have one system operating!
This might take a while so I'll likely no post back until the end of the week.

Thanks,
LJ

Good luck to you. I am well beyond the time that I should have done a Format C:. I will do it within the next month.

Well, I finally got to where I was ready to redo my DVD project. Fresh install of windows...latest drivers....and the same doggone problem...skipping back at the same frames! I really don't know what to do now. Unfortunatley, ROXIO PROVIDES NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT!!! I emailed them two times, three months ago with no response. I've tried the Chat BS five times. I allways have one or two in front of me and after 1-2 minutes, I get bounced to "try email". If I am persistant, after a bit tech support goes "offline".
This community thing and people like you are all they have going. Got any suggestions other than possilby Ulead software?

The DVD is built from mpeg files from my Sony DVD cam.

That's from the original post. Are you doing any editing? If you have a DVD RW disc, try creating a simple DVD menu, add the files WITHOUT editing and burn. MyDVD should NOT re-encode the files. Play those back and see if they skip/jump. It could be something in the files.

Yeh, DOH...logged in with my registration login....don't really like my email hanging out. Already enough spam.
I'm not editing the VIDEO FILES. The only editing I'm doing is renaming the Titles and Menu names. The files are from a Sony DVD-103 video cam.
I'm using MyDVD, adding approx 35-40 files at one time, and using the create chapters "at start of every panel" I do this twice. (two titles with 35-40 chapters).
Then I edit the titles on the main menu and then change the sub menu titles from "my menu" to 1,2,3, etc.
That's it! Save and burn.
Right now I'm going to do a quicky test (I've got 3 short vids of the same source). I'll let you know if that works.

Thanks,

LJ
