Toast 6 won't let me burn a DVD in PAL. I set PAL in the drawer, but after I click on the Record button, I'm given a window that the setting was changed back to NTSC. What gives? How can I record in PAL?
I can't record a DVD in PAL with Toast 6.

Toast 6 cannot change an NTSC video to PAL (or opposite). That requires either Toast 7 or 8. There are some other apps that can do the transcoding, too. I think MPEG2 Works is one.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

I'm not trying to change an NTSC to PAL. Toast 6 offers a radio button to record in PAL. I want to record a video file to PAL from scratch. NTSC is not a factor. ( I think.) All I want is to burn a DVD in PAL format. Why will Toast 6 not burn in PAL, when it offers the option?

Toast thinks the video is in NTSC format. That means it is probably sized 720 x 576 rather than 720 x 480 and is 25 fps instead of 30 fps. There are some other PAL and NTSC sizes but you see that the width-to-height ratio is different.
I'm a bit confused when you say you want to record a video file with Toast from scratch. Toast doesn't record video. Your video must have been digitally recorded elsewhere before coming to Toast. What is that source?

The file I'm trying to burn is a QuickTime .dv file. I'm also puzzled when you say, "Toast doesn't record video." Of course it does. It has a Video tab. I've already recorded several NTSC formatted videos to DVD with Toast 6. Why can't Toast6 record in PAL format? Especially when it offers that option?

We don't use the same meaning for "record." To me, Toast encodes and burns video, but the video had to be recorded by something else such as a DV camcorder, an analog-to-digital capture device, an EyeTV and so on. I'm pretty certain your DV video was recorded at 30 fps which makes it NTSC. Toast 6 doesn't transcode that to PAL's 25 fps. Transcoding is a feature that Roxio added in Toast 7.

So, what you're saying is, Toast 6 will burn a file to DVD in PAL, only if that file was recorded in PAL, that Toast 6 cannot take a file recorded in NTSC and burn it in PAL. I think I've got it. I'm disappointed to know that, but you've helped a lot.

Just want to let you know I've ordered a copy of Toast 7. BTW, my confusion between *burn* and *record* is due to Toast's big red button that says, *Record.* It ought to say *burn,* to keep terminology accurate.
