I have tried to burn different movies but everytime in the Burn Project screen, the movie is encoding and it hangs at 97% overall progress current task: closing project 15% it does this no matter what movie or clip I try to burn.  It freezes the computer at this point. It does not burn anything on to the disck and is reuesable bit I always put a new disk and try again. I have all application programs shutdown including drag to disk and my virus protection.  I am running XP Pro with the latest direct x 9.0c. I have done a clean install and re-install according to the directions in the forums.

Asus PDB Deluxe MB
Intel core two duo E6400
2 gigs DDR3 5300 memory
Nvidia 7600GS PCI-E latest driver 93.71
300GB SATA-11 hardrive.

Have you tried outputting the encoded file to the hard drive instead of the DVD?

Select 'send to my DVD' and there 'burn project' but instead of 'burn to disc' select 'save disc image file'

Open the resultant .iso with Disc Copy and that will write to the blank DVD (and shrink to fit if it's over 1 hour duration)
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

No I have not tried that.  I will give it a try.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Lewt us know how you get on.

A common mistake by most people is assuming that a file of 1 GB or thereabouts will render to a DVD - it won't. You have to think in terms of time rather than size. As a rule of thumb, one hour video = 1 4.3 GB DVD at best quality
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Well I just wasted another 1.5 hours.  I did as you said earlier and it hung at 97% and 15% as I stated earlier.  At least I know it is not my DVD burner.  I am at a loss for this situation.

It is with all video.  I tried again and did a small video file and save it to my hard drive as an .iso file and again it froze at 97% and 15%.  I can successfully burn with Nero 7 but is particular about playing in dvd players.  I want to get EMC9 working and when I first got it it did work flawlessly, it all seem to starrt when it wanted mpeg2 activation.  After I activated it I did not try to burn for pretty good while so I don't know when the problem really started.  When I open EMC9 and then click on Quick DVD it takes about 14 seconds to get the program up and on the screen.  It always was a little of delay but not that long and that is when the problem seemed to start.

My computer is similar to yours and I have the 7600 GT.  I also have a lot of issues with video.  The only way that I can get around it is by closing the program and restarting the computer before I attempt a render.  I think there is something wrong with the NVIDA Driver, but I can't confirm it.  Whenever I am doing a lot of edits, I save often and it seems to keep the program stable, but if I just keep on editing without a save it will eventually freeze and I get an error report.  I also cannot render without rebooting if I was working on anything before hand.

A bit of a long shot here but try defragmenting the hard drive before starting the render. Sometimes a fragmented file can hang if it takes too long to get to a section elsewhere on the hard drive

Also, I'd recommend permanently stopping MediaWatch (it's a bit of a resource hog) - go to run, start and type in msconfig. In the startup tab uncheck RoxWatchTray9, reboot and tell the nag screen to go away and not come back.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Do the same with Drag to disk too.

Actually for D2D, go to add/remove programs in control panel and dispose of it completely - it's got the reliability of an igloo on the Equator for backup purposes

I have tried the defrag numerous times, I have also unistalled D2D and diabled Mediawatch and roxwatchtray in msconfig and also in administrative tools /services, I also uninstalled Nero even my virus protection at one time.  This is very strange and frustrating.  I do appreciate all the responses and help though.

Thanks!

I experienced similar problems when I would burn; 97% overall progress and 12% on the current task.  A firmware update from HP for my dvd burner solved the problem.
