I am getting AVCAPTUREErrorStrings.Capture ManagerBuild: "Failed to setup system components for showing picture or sound" when trying to capture from my Panasonic DV camcorder using a firewire connection.
I have a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics controller in a Dell Dimension PC Intel processor with 386Mb.
I have managed to import video to Movie Maker and edit in EMC9, but would really like to import direct into EMC9.
Any ideas?

Make sure you have the latest video chip driver from nVidia and update to the latest DirectX 9.

I have had exactly the same issue as you 'halldav' and I raised a ticket with Roxio. At first they suggested update the video drivers and version of directx and checking that hardware acceleration was set to full. I did all this and still had the same issues. I got back to Roxio and they replied the other day saying that I might not have a compatible capture card (the firewire card) and showed me a link of campatible ones. They went on to suggest I capture the video in MovieMaker and upload it into Roxio after.
I find it hard to believe that a large powerful piece of software like this cannot be compatible with most capture cards. I was tempted to get my money back to be honest but have other uses for Roxio besides this one.
Let us know if you have a success!

If you are using WinXP SP2, there is also a patch for the IEEE1394 fro windows.
Update for Windows XP (KB885222)
After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, some 1394 devices (such as digital cameras that use S400 speed) may not perform as expected.
Firewire SP2 Fix
You can't expect Sonic/Roxio to write HARDWARE drivers. EMC just 'asks' Windows to interface with the capture card. If the card uses proprietary or has poorly written drivers, then EMC may fail. The Dazzle DVC90 has difficulty with VIA USB chipset even though the Dazzle works fine with EMC9. There are all kinds of reasons why software may have problems with hardware and no fault of their own.

Have now installed SP2 Firewire fix ... still no luck. Already loaded DirectX9 and assume my GeForce drivers are upto date since only bought it a month or so ago.
Hardware accelleration set to full!!
I have already tried WMM2, but after a few days kept getting "Unspecified error" pop up when I connect my Panasonic DV.
I guess I am Doooooomed in trying to get my videos onto DVD!!!
Don't really want to go and buy a new "compatible" capture card.

You may want to check the drivers. You can't make the assumption that the drivers are up to date. The video card could have been sitting on a shelf somewhere for a year or more.

Thanks for all the feedback.
Closing this off I am accepting that I cannot use Roxio EMC9 to capture on my (low) spec of PC.
I have got round the WMM2 problem (again unresolved) by capturing using Neror Express (free with DVD drive) and then use all the fancy feature of Roxio EMC9 to create my movie and burn to DVD.
