Also if you contact Customer Services with your details, I believe they will ship a CD for a nominal handling fee

The size of the Program file (for EMC 9.0) is as you say 592 MB, but would you check in file properties

Mine shows 621,500,711 bytes

The content file should be 336 MB (353,257,786 bytes)

If the actual figures in properties don't match, then the download is incorrect.

Let us know if yours matches.

Also, try extracting from them with winrar or winzip (they're both self-extract archive files - right click and 'open with' to extract)
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

The file size for EMC 9.0 and content are the same sizes that you quoted

Okay, do what Daithi said about extracting the files.  Make sure that you make a folder before you do it.  I made one called Extracted Files.

Right click on the Main Program file, and select Extract Files, browse to the folder that you made, then extract them.  Click on the setup file, and it should install.

You can then try the Content file without extracting the files.

I don't remember but both are exe files? If so, they must be self-extracting files.

They are, as I said earlier, self-extract archive files

RIGHT click ONCE and use 'open with' and select winrar or winzip (whichever you use) and then extract the files to a temp folder anywhere you like. Then run setup.exe from the folder with the program archive
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I then tried something. I disabled my virus scan, disabled the firewall and deleted windows defender.
Onthe next download I clicked "Run" instead of save. Finally success. It installed andis working. Of course I dont have a backup to burn to a CD. Thanks for the help. I shall now build an image file opf the drive for backup

I never really trusted Windows Defender myself - but that's me (if Windows is that 'secure' why is MS selling a 'defender' program?)

Backup. If you have a working copy of the download, do the extract with winzip or winrar and burn that to a CD (you could of course burn both the downloaded exe files if you wish)

That of course is presuming you didn't delete them when you finished

You should be installing ALL applications like this.  Virus proctection is an evil necessity, but can cause all kinds of problems when install apps.

So here's the deal, I had the same problem.  My box is running Vista Ultimate, but nothing really wierd, it's a pretty fresh install, and I've had all my routers, etc forever.  And this isn't the first 600MB pkg I've DL'd before.  All my file sizes looked right and everything.

Anyway - I dl'd it 3-4x, still had the problem. angry.gif Tried to disable firewall and virus scanners.

I then went to another machine (on my same home network) running XP SP2 (and frankly not much else, not even a virus scanner on that particular box), tried to DL it and it didn't work either.

I tried WinRAR at this point - yea, it wouldn't touch it, so don't waste your time on that.

At this point I was frustrated after 2 days of messing around with it, So I fired up Virtual PC 2007 and booted up an old "very clean" XP SP2 virtual machine that I had, I DL'd it from within that VM (using my Vista Box as the host OS) and poof THAT ONE WORKED.   dry.gif

So...  conclusion?  DL it from another machine (maybe if you can DL it at work?) and/or try try again.  If my network were inherently faulty my VM's DL should not have worked (unless I was pretty lucky on like the 5th download or something)

(you could also try a fancy download client, maybe it will be more robust than just using IE's built in DL stuff (not that it's EVERY had a problem before for me)

PS.  Just because I'm that way - I then did a windiff from the version that I had DL'd from my Vista IE7 and the VM's IE6, and what do you know they really were "different".  humm.

If Winrar won't open it, the file is corrupted on the download. It is a self-extract .exe file and, if it's uncorrupted and complete, Winrar WILL open it

You are going to need to restart the download. Sorry about that but that's what it boils down to.

It sounds to me like something was blocking it in part. Could be a firewall, AV, malware scanner, a download manager, browser settings, or anything along those lines. Since you got it dl'd using the one pc, I'd make sure to download the second file (there are 2 of them you should be downloading) and keep them safely stored fior future use so you don;t have to try downloading again. Which btw, there is a limited number of and so many days cuttoffs.
