It is more of a hardware issue… What device do you have to convert the analogue from the tape player into digital?
Dell 8300 3.0ghz 1.5gb RAM 300gb & 200gb HDs
XP Pro/SP2
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 w/AGP8X

I am using a vcr of course. and dazzle digital video creator 100 connected to a usb port. With moviestar 5, dvd complete, and ondvd software. If I have the correct hardware, whatever it may be. will the ecm 8 transfer vcr tapes to dvd? thank you for your time
With the correct hardware, EMC will capture the video.
One way I've captured from VHS:
Borrowed a friends SVHS VCR with an S-Video connection.
Plugged S-Video straight into digital camcorder.
Used Y-connection audio cable to connect L and R audio out of VCR to digital camcorder also.
Capture to EMC as an AVI file.
Works very well. Quality is not as good as digital camcorder orginals, but still good.

The Dazzle will probably not work for capture in Roxio.
However, you can still use the proprietary software included with the device to capture with and then use Roxio to edit, build your project and burn.
