I just purchased and installed EMC9. Before I could get it to work properly I had to rollback IE7 to IE6 and WMPlayer11 to WMplayer10. Many restarts and reinstalls later I finally have MOST of the program working, except one major part; the label creator. I can get the Express Labeller to start but that proggie stinks. When I try to access the Label Creator from Creator Classic I get the following error message:

Server Execution Failed

Why is this happening and what can I do to correct the issue? I can't stand paying $75 for a program that doesn't work correctly. Hopefully someone here can help me. Thanks!

P.S. I am using Windows XP SP2, on a Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook with T2300 @ 1.66ghz

Can you start up Label Creator from the start menu as a standalone app? It's in under Tools in the Roxio folder
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

No, the Label Creator ( and now also the Express Labeller) will not start at all. I have tried as a standalone from the start menu and also from the Roxio Home and nothing. I just get the same error message. I am now going to attempt to install the program on my desktop to see if the same thing happens.

You may have to uninstall and re-install. Use add/remove to take it out and also run the msicuu tool to clean any roxio traces out of the registry and then do a clean re-install

That has been done numerous times. I have just installed it onto my desktop and it works perfectly. Could it be a setting that I need to change in the laptop or some other rollback I need to do? I have uninstalled-reinstalled at least four times on it and always get the same problem. I made sure to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility each time.

I have to admit I'm at a total lss heer - why four installs still leaves the same app unorkable is a mystery. If it happened with different apps, it might be easier to get to the bottom of.

There has to be something that's stopping it working - maybe printer, desktop settings, anything at all.

I take it you installed DirectX 9, updated video drivers and so on (shouldn't have any bearing on it but you never know). Also, if you installed IE7, try rolling back to IE6 (from add/remove programs)

Yes, I did all the rollbacks I thought of because I read the forums here before I installed it. The weird thing is this, I had EMC7 installed in the laptop and the same problem appeared but not until I had used it on numerous occasions. I thought that a clean install of 9 would solve the issue but apparently not. Thanks for trying, if you do come up with some idea I will be watching this thread, meanwhile I will keep trying things to get it to work as well.

Well, I still am having no luck getting the Label Creator to work on the laptop. I have heard that EMC9 has some issues with Windows XP Professional, which is installed on my laptop. Anyone know if there is a fix to this?

I'm using XP Pro here with no problems and the only OS issue I've heard of is with Vista.

The only thing I can think of here is it's a "permissions" problem - that somehow something is stopping the program from gaining access to the printer. I take it you installed all as an admin in XP - maybe if you uninstall and re-install the printer drivers it may help (I'm still scratching my head here on this one)

I did try that, and yes I installed as admin and also several times under different logins. I can't see how a printer permission would affect this because I'm having a problem starting the program in the first place, never mind trying to print it. I've contacted Roxio about this, let's see what they say. TTFN

Well, the problem has been repaired, but I still do not know what caused the issue in the first place. I had to do a complete reformat of drive C: and a full clean install of Windows XP in order to get the label creator to work. Case closed, thanks for the help.

Hard to say what caused the problem. I have noticed that Windows tends to get flaky over time and strange things start to happen. I usually re-format and re-install every 6 - 8 months as the registry expands and gets full of assorted rubbish.

Glad it's working for you anyway
