Some time ago I inquired from Roxio if Easy Creator 9 would do the same things as Version 5. I was told that yes. So finally I bought version 9 and installed it. Here is where all the problems started.
First it took out my version 5. Then it screwed up my Windows and now on startup windows is asking to click my name and it takes forever. Before windows would just load and end up with my desktop ready for action.
The burning of audio CDs is the other stupid problem. I was told by Roxio that with version 9 I can have a 2 second space in between tracks or use disk at once, select speeds, etc. Big lie. Not possible. Then in burning version 9 makes its own mind as to what tracks it burns first, second, etc. It does not respect the order of selection. You can' t see how much space each track is taking, move them around, etc.

In summary I wasted $100, a Future Shop gift card and lost my reliable version 5. Do any of you have an old version 5 or maybe 6 that I can buy from you. I no longer have my original disk of 5, lost it in my last move of homes somewhere. Please someone help! Contact me at: *********** <removed to prevent harvesting of email address>

You didn't happen to see a similar window as shown in this image in your Audio CD project? The Transition column is the place to specify the length of gap/overlap between tracks.

I removed your e-mail address to prevent it from being 'harvested' and you end up with a lot of unwanted spams.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did see that colum but I could not change anything in it. Anyway, I uninstalled it and will take it back and hope I get a refund. Right now am looking for a version 5. I should have followed the old adage of if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it and should have left version 5. After all it has served me well for many years. Live and learn. I tried Nero at one time and that was another useless tit.

The requirement to sign in at the Windows startup was put there by Netframe 2 that is installed with EMC 9. To get rid of the annoying sign in screen, go to My Computer, click on Control Panel, click on User Accounts, click on Change an Account, then delete the one that Netframe created. I forget the name, but all I have now is my account and the guest account.

To stop the other part of the slow startup, click on Start/Run, and type in msconfig in the text box. When the next screen comes up, click on the Startup tab, and uncheck Roxwatch, Drag to Disc, and whatever else Roxio. Click Apply, get out, reboot, and put a check in the box in the lower left corner of the screen that comes up on the reboot.

Grandpabruce you are magic, thank you so much.
My computer got so bad that it kept rebooting itself on startup forever unless I happen to be in the room and click my name. Even then it would take long and do another reboot itself for "good measure" I guess. What a disaster!

I followed your instructions and deleted this extra account NET something or other and said to delete all files.
Then I did the msconfig thing but there was no Roxwatch or anything else Roxio.

Rebooted and it seems to be back to normal. What a relief it is.

I phoned Future Shop to ask if they would give me a refund since the Easy? Creator 9 did not work in my computer and they said, no way Jose because the seal was already opened. That they could exchange it for another Creator 9 if mine was defective. Why would I want another one?
Anyway I am bidding in Ebay for an old Version 5. It may be my salvation to get back where I was.

Thank you again.

Yes, I am sorry too. But is not so much that it won't work on my computer or that it screwed it up, it is the fact that what the Roxio sales rep said was not true. I think they just say yes to everything so as to sell more. That is what pisses me off. I simply got ripped off. Reading this forum it is evident that I am not alone in my sentiments. I think a more honest and professional approach from Roxio would be to allow free trials of their different versions. They can certainly limit the times you can use it or put an expiry date on it. Other manufactures do that and I respect them for it. They want to have happy customers. Do you think that now I would recommend this software to anyone, no siree.

Once again, thank you for your help in getting rid of it. Anyone wants to buy a hardly used EMC 9?

The folks who post here with problems, represent a minute percentage of all of the folks who have the Roxio software.

Roxio does offer a free trial of the software.

Disc-at-once vs. track-at-once:
I do not have 9 installed on this machine, but in the dialog box when you are ready to burn, is there a check-box indicating the completed disc will be "read-only" or not? If you want those 2 second gaps you used to get in version 5 by choosing track-at-once recording, you must make sure the "read-only" box is unchecked when burning. If this doesn't work in V9 - I apologize because I don't have a v9 to check at this point.

Regarding sequence of songs - are you saying you cannot drag songs around on your burn list to change the play order? Are you making a standard digital audio cd?

Before running back to Version 5 - please keep in mind that is will not work with newer burners, nor will it burn a dvd video disc (it can burn data to dvd media but not a dvd video disc playable on a standalone dvd player). That being said - I too was a huge fan of Platinum5 - and migrated to a newer version only somewhat reluctantly.
Currently running Creator 2012 Pro under Windows 7 Pro/64 on a home-built AMD Phenom II Quad processor tower.

First: Roxio never said there was a trial version. It would have saved me $99.
Now I am still screwed. I reinstalled Roxio version 5 and it will not burn saying there is no CD-Recorder detected. The funny thing is that before I un-installed version 5, it worked like a charm. I tried the fixes offered in Roxio website for version 5 but it did not fix this problem. I tried the upgrade to version 5.3 as recommended but I get a download_failure. So where do I go from here? I sent an email to Roxan but have not received a reply. I only make audio CDs, no DVDs. I also use the Data Creator to read and write to CD-RWs to backup files. If I sound frustrated, it is because I am. Years and hundreds of CDs all out the window. Burning music is my hobby as an old man. Pleaaaase help somebody.

I have to call you on one thing here. What do you mean years and hundreds of CD's out the window? Are you daft?

No, of course I have not thrown them away, they are my life. It is just a figure of speech noting my frustration. You see, I love certain music and once a week I record from FM broadcast using top of the line tuner onto my harddrive using Total Recorder Pro. I edit the audio files to my linking, etc. Once all is done, I used Roxio 5 to burn a CD with what I recorded. These are my prize possessions that I enjoy listening to in high-end audio amplifier. I am very picky as to quality of sound.

Now, for some silly reason I thought that if I upgraded Roxio 5 to 9, I would get even better burning. Stupid of me. What can else can I say. Right now, I can no longer burn CDs. Over the years I have tried various other burning softwares, but none offered the features I needed and thankfully provided by Roxio 5. It was a snap using 5.

Hope that answers your question. Sniff, sniff.

Actually, I was a big fan of EZCD Creator 5 Platinum. I burned many audio CD's with it, and to this day, for doing audio CD's, I haven't seen anything better.

Now, if you are going to burn music DVD's, the newer software is great, once you figure how to use it.

Glad you share my feelings about Creator 5. So the question is, how can I get it to work again.

Rather than mess around trying to get ECDC 5 to work again,( http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=125 ) why dont you use the internal burning capabilities built into XP.

If you dont know how,go into Help and Support and type in "write a CD" and for music look in the help on the Windows Media Player page.

Windows XP burning capabilities is very cumbersome and does not allow track at once or disk at once. No pause between tracks, no indication of space used, etc. All features needed for my hobby and available in ECDC 5.

Thank you for the link to another discussion. Could not quite get it, sorry not too bright. What is this roxiozap.
Anyway, I looked again through my old software for my original ECDC 5.3.0.107 that came with an LG drive. Eureka! I found it. You see, the problem is that I recently moved and everything got mixed up in the packing process. My rejoicing was shortlived. It installed ok and I can read and write to CD-RW. But to burn audio CDs it appears it is starting but it crashes with a message saying that Roxio encountered a problem and needs to close. I don't understand. I had installed this CD a few times before and never had a problem. All of this problem now in my view as a result of trying out Roxio 9.

Hopefully someone will read this and be able to help me getting ECDC 5 working again. I will be most grateful and will send you a gift.

Roxizap will remove any left over pieces after you have uninstalled using add/remove programs in control panel.

Another possible problem is do you have Internet Explorer 7 installed (if yes, roll back to 6).
also Windows Media Player 11 can cause problems (roll back to version 10).

Another one is you said in an earlier post that you tried to "upgrade" to 5.3.5 version.
On the Roxio update page their are two versions available Platinum and Basic, you have what is called a OEM version (it came free with your burner), so you should have used the Basic update (things could have got screwed up there).

Thank you Ogdens for the tips. I have Explorer 6 and Windows Media 10.
Re the upgrade I did try the Basic upgrade download from Roxio, but got nowhere as I get a message in red font saying Program_download_failure. And of course nothing downloads. Maybe Roxio no longer has the file?

Edit:
I just received a reply to my support ticket from Roxann. It says they no longer support version 6 or earlier.
It would be nice if they update their site to say this instead of offering "upgrades" to solve problems.

I am prepared to go the distance to get ECDC 5 working again. Any ideas, please!

Just to clarify a point, the version 5 that you have (as I already said) is a OEM version and that means all support somes from the OEM provider, not Roxio.

Roxio support for 5 stopped a few years ago.

You could also try uninstall/re-install, then apply the Roxizap http://tools.roxio.com/support/tools/roxizap.exe

see if that works, don't apply any updates.
