Had EMC7 on computer for a few years.  Bought 8 but never installed it.  Had to reformat HDs & reinstall Win XP recently and now trying to decide whether to buy & upgrade to EMC9 or install 8.  I was pretty content with the features of 7.   Most of my work consists of making audio CDs, ripping mp3s, making data CDs, and some video editing (making DVDs from camcorder footage, & making copies).  Not into heavy duty video stuff.
System is AMD Athlon 2600+, 1.91 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 2 - 40 GB HDs, NVidia GeForce MX440, Win XP.  I know it's kind of slow & small, but EMC7 ran OK on it.
Do you suggest I upgrade to 9 or install 8 (or 7)?  Thanks.
Veronica

The first thing to do is to update the drivers for that video card.  You can do that here.  Follow all the instructions to remove the old drivers, reboot, install reboot.  Then update Microsoft's DirectX 9c.

There is a free trial of V9 if you look further down on these boards.  You might want to install that and try it.  If it works well for you and you do like the extras but are not using all of them, you can uninstall the trial and install V8.  V9 is a much improved version of V8.

BTW, if you do install V8 or V9, you can also install V7.  They play together nicely except for Drag to Disc.  Only one version allowed.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I also would suggest looking a the trial version of 9. From your description of what you use the software for tho, I think 7 would work fine for you. If you like the trial of version 9 however, that's the one I would go with, and stay away from v 8.

Not so sure that ver 7 will work right with ver 8 Steve. I tried having 7 and 8 both on the same computer and that didn't work for me at all. And it wasn't do to D2D.

Also, if you have a choice bewteen 7, 8 or 9, forget about version 8 !! Install 7 (7.5 if you have that) and as you know it worked great for you. However, 9 has a lot more programs added to it than 7 had. You said you are not into video editing that much, so it's your choice---7 or 9 and sell you version 8 on E-bay. biggrin.gif  smile.gif

If you decide to get EMC 9, make sure that your hardware is sufficient to run it, as suggested by Steve.

John, are you trying to say something? If you are having problems, start a new thread in the correct forum rather than just adding  "me to" and "I have the exact same problem" to existing threads. Explain what your problems are and include your computer information.

You posted the same rant at least four times so that may be enough. angry.gif Did you ever pm msgig who asked you to in his post? He indicated that he had a fix for you since you don't seem to want to contact Roxio directly.  Sometimes you have to make use of opportunities to help yourself rather than just ranting.  It may make you feel good but doesn't solve the situation and may get you ignored.
