I can't seem to burn Office Depot CD-Rs in my Philips CDRW/DVD SCB5265 under WinXP using RecordNow 9.  I did make sure I have the latest driver (v17) for the drive.  I either get an error or it looks like it worked but the CD is still blank.  I have done MANY unistall/re-install cycles.  I even upgraded from RecordNow v7.3 to 9 with the same problem.  I did get a Memorex and a TDK CD-R to work fine.

I think you've answered your own question.  OD cd's work fine for me but I only use them for things I don't care about in the long run.  There not something I would trust.
I think you should use the brand you're manufacturer suggests or any other brand that works for you.  Memorex is junk IMO and doens't work well for me.

With media, it's often true that you get what you pay for, unfortunately.

If you type your burner into the below link, you can search for user's experiences with different types of media. It's very valuable to look at this list before going to the store to buy media.
