I am having a problem accessing my restored files. When I click on them I get an error message that says "access denied."  Can anyone help?

What version of windows? I will assume XP. Are you logged on as administrator normally or do you use a limited user id for normal access? I believe BUMP needs admin for backup and restore, and you may not have the right to read the files after a restore if under a limited user.

What type of backup was it? Regular backup, disaster recovery and was it off a different system and you are moving to another?
Not sure what else to ask, as I have restored data and have no problems with permissions.

I am assuming not the C drive, but another. I will try something at when I get home, but I think I have already done that type of restore with no problems.
I would check the rights on the drive itself.

Edit - Just did a test with no problems. As an afterthought, I assume you are using XP Pro. At Home I am using XP home. Don't have BUMP at work, so we may be talking apples and oranges.

I am running windows xp media edition I formated the internal hard drive "C:"
After backing up some of the files I wanted to keep. When I restored them to my documents,
and try to get to "my documents" folder I get a window that pops up and says.

C:\Documents and Settings\Dale\My Documents is not accessible.

Access is denied.

one thing I had my User account password protected before I formatted  could that have something to do with it?

Please help.

Thank you

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if that is the problem. Not sure how to get around it. You may want to try password protecting it again using the old password. See if you have access to it and if you do, then take password protection off again. You then should still be able to access the files as you are doing this under windows and not changing thru a restore.

I am having the identical problem accessing restored files.  I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro, SP2.   I did not have any password protection on my user id before reformatting.  Hope someone has something to suggest.
