I am new to this forum. If I am posting this in the wrong place, I apologize. I have a new Dell laptop that has WinXP Pro, a DVD/CD-ROM (TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D), and Roxio (the modules are: Roxio Creator Plus build 2.4.32a; PX Engine build 2.2.54a,68; and RecordNow Audio ver. 2.04 build 204B2BC,RCP). I also have an older Dell desktop with WinXP Pro with a CD-RW and Roxio Easy CD Creator ver 5.3.5. Here's my question: Is there way, with the Roxio components I have, for me to format CDs so that they will be drag-and-drop compatible back-and-forth between these two computers? Or do I need to install a different Roxio product on the desktop (which now has Easy CD Creator 5)? Thank you.

You already have a program which can move files back and forth between the two computers - it's called WinXP. Either right-click > send to (burner drive), and follow the prompts, or just drag it over, and follow the prompts. Or use the Windows Help function for more info on 'burn a CD'. It is done in Sessions, and the disc will be appendable unless closed (see Windows help).
However, if you have some CDs that were formatted for Packet-Writing, you hve some CDs that are at great risk of losing their data or becoming unreadable. Use either WinXP's burning to copy to your Hard Drive and re-burn using WinXP, or use DataProject in ECDC 5 to do the same.
You posted this on the ECD/DVDC 6 Forum - does that mean you were thinking of getting Version 6? If you have computers with a hidden partition (such as Dell), Version 6 may result in the need to completely reformat the computer, and isn't recommended.

Those numbers that you poste mean nothing. Open Creator Classic, click on Help, click on About, and post those numbers here.

Bruce - it's the Dell Version. Altho I see I'm getting punchy - I said in my post this was in V.6, and it's V.7
Anyway, WinXP burning will do what she wants

You're right, Lynn. Since WinXP is on both computers, that's probably the easiest way to write files to a CD to share between computers.
It's not a Drag and Drop type operation though.
The Windows Help file will explain how to do it by typing in 'write to cd'.

Thanks to all for your responses. As you suggest, I will use WinXP's “Copy To Disc” utility for CDs which need to be shared between the desktop and the laptop. I guess I was hoping there might be a way to make share-able CDs with drag-and-drop capability. As for the numbers I posted, I got them by clicking on Help, then About, in the program that came pre-installed on the laptop, “Roxio Creator Plus – Dell Version”. Francis

If you don't close them ("make readable on all computers" or something like that) they are appendable and will work as you want. (but they will only be readable in a burner drive)
The only difference is in "deleting" a file, which will merely make it disappear from the TOC [Table of Contents], you don't get the space back.
However, Packet-Writing (formatted a CD, especially a CD-RW) is best at permantly LOSING the files. I was warned, but I managed to learn the hard way anyway.

JUst thought i would note roxio DRAG TO DISC problems. It took over a pc
basically. Anything i used with drag drop to disc would not
play on my brothers pc. Because he didnt have drag to disc roxio
installed. So i installed it. Same cd 2 different machines. Then
the regualar windows drag to drop data cd stopped working for
him so he couldnt right click and send these files to cd.
Roxio wouldnt let him.
HE finally just uninstalled the drag to disc part and
kept roxio video wave and dvd builder.
Now he can right click all day long and burn files
to disc. Shares fine with me. But i cant
corectly share with him because mine is installed.
So usally i just make him a dvd or put it
on a memory card when i can.
The roxio drag to disc is picky.

That is characteristic of ALL Packet-Writing - Drag2Disc, DirectCD, Nero's InCD, Sonic's DLA, etc.
Basicly, if you want to KEEP the data, NEVER format the disc.
(Have you considered getting a Flash drive - aka Pen / Thumb / Keychain / Jump drive) for moving files back and forth? Works great. Like a floppy.)

Back in version 4, I found that Direct CD took control of my CD drive. I removed it, and no version of any packet writing software has been on my computer, for more than 5 minutes, since.
