I thought I would re-post this to the Vista forum (Honestly can't recall if the Vista specific forum was available when I originally posted):

Hi All,

first, let me say I know EMC9 Deluxe is not supported under vista x64. Having said that:

I have installed EMC9 Deluxe under vista Ultimate (x86) on a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop and it runs fine (though I haven't tried everything yet). however, this is not where I want EMC installed. I have a Dell Precision 690 running vista Ultimate x64 that I would prefer to use.

the installation under vista x64 goes well (except for one unsigned driver, which I take care of by not enforcing digital signatures at boot). The non-video/photo functions under EMC work fine (disc copier, Drag-to-disc, etc.), but when I try to start anything that requires roxio to render something (Create DVD, slideshow, etc), I get a "Unable to load Skin" error and the called application never opens.

I've looked at the other threads related to this error and have done a clean install, etc., but still get the same error.

Does anyone have EMC9 running under Vista x64? Or has anyone tried this and failed with the same or different error? Actually, the only reason I tried this install was because XP x64 is now supported and I was hoping that some of the x64 support might have leaked into Vista glare.gif

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!
Best regards,

Lee

I was running x64 and while the install went well, I removed Drag to Disc but had a few problems with programs loading properly.  I never got farther as I am still testing for MS and they've asked me to install x86 which I now have with EMC9 running well so far.  I can only assume it's the fact that nothing seems to run as well yet with the x64 version.  Sorry I don't have anything positive to say about this but I feel x64 is just not ready yet especially when there's so many other problems with the 32  bit version.

Hi Paul,

I understand completely. Actually, I was suprised the install went as well as it did. I'm going to continue to post x64 issues, even though I don't really expect too many answers immediately. But, you never know, a problem I have could just be something stupid that I'm overlooking. And, Roxio will have a good start on a list of x64 issues.

For now, I'm dual booting between x86 and x64, so I do most of my EMC9 stuff in x86. The fact that I can print labels, burn and copy images, and use the drive emulator is sufficient for me in x64 (for now!). Unfortunately, I lost control of the drive emulator after relettering some drives (see my post about the Disc Image Loader). Eventually, I'll dump x86 and move completely to x64, but I can't give up x86 yet. Still a few driver issues and one or two programs I need that won't run under x64.
Best regards,

Lee

My install went well I had no problems until I tried to run emc9 then nothing happened, tried again and next popped up a roxio 9 stopped working message. Da!

But I did find out that the home screen interface does not work on my vista x64, so I tried to run the programs each individuly bypassing the home icon and guess what each program works.
See if it works for you, at least till a fix can be made.

Hi,

Yeah, I saw in some other posts that there were some issues related to starting apps from "Roxio Home", but I did try starting them from the programs menu as well, and I still get the same "Error: Unable to load skin".

It's interesting to see that some people have no problems running under Vista x86 and others have constant errors. It seems that it will be the same for Vista x64. since you have EMC9 running under x64, my error could be related to something like my graphics cards or, more likely, the graphics card drivers.

I've also seen some posts about removing certain Vista updates (patches) to keep EMC9 running. Personally, I won't remove OS patches to make a piece of software work. I'll be patient and wait for an EMC9 update (since I dual boot with XP x64 and EMC9 works fine there).

I would like to do a bit of follow-up here though. What is the configuration of your machine? I'd like to see if I can start to narrow down the possible causes of my specific error.

Thanks for the info!
Best regards,

Lee

I get that error as well on Utimate x32 I have so many problems with this software.
How long before they get things worked out?

I have work to do and I don't know if I'll ever catch up. I am thinking of switching to MAC. I hear that their DVD and movie software is good. Right now anything would be better than the nothing tha I have a this time.

My Explorer tries to dial up instead of using my DSL and when I click for Vista to diagnose the problem they say there is no problem. None of the software or drivers that I need are ready. I have been rather disappointed in theis whole mess.

Well, you can always go back to a stable OS.  Windows XP.  It will be a year, minimum, before I will upgrade to Vista.
