I have recently purchased and installed EMC Suite 9 on my computer with Windows XP Pro and I have run into a problem that I think is related to Permissions. When I installed the program I was in an Administrator Account as required and everything when Ok. The Program appeared to operate correctly after installation, but when I logged on to a Limited User Account I received 3 error windows as I was logging on.

First Window:
Resource Loader: LoadImage method

Skin image "MenuSeparator.png" found but cannot be loaded

OK

Second Window:
MicroSoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program ... RoxWatchTray9.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact application's support team.

OK

Third Window:
MicroSoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program ... RoxWatchTray9.exe

R6025
-pure virtual function call

OK

After this rash of errors the program will not run in the Limited User Account at all. If I change the Limited User Account to an Administrator account the error windows go away and the program runs normally. I can also get the program to run in a Limited user account if I allow it to run under different Credentials of an Administrator from the Limited User Account.

I have left Roxio a message at their support page, but after a week I have received no reply from them. Does anyone have any reasonable suggestions to correct the problem? I can't make everyone an administrator for just this one program. One Administrator per computer should be enough.

Thanks,
Mike

You are joking of course. One Adminstrator only please!! Limited User Accounts should be able to use the program. I am looking for a real solutions please. Not hacks to cover poor programming code.

I would if it was Microsoft's problem. I am running Windows XP Pro not Windows 95. If Roxio can not supply programs that meet the requirements of the new operating systems they should so state on their product box. That is not too much to ask.

If you want 5 Administrators on your computer or more you may do so. I don't see what your problem is. I asked a question about a technical issue and expected to receive replies in the same vain. If you have problems with Microsoft please email them not me. I am satisfied with Windows XP on the whole. People that want to program for it should stick to the rules and that includes Roxio.

I never e-mailed you, and I certainly don't have a problem with the software or Microsoft.

I think that XP is rock solid, but if you have a problem granting administrative privileges to the users of your computer, then that is you problem.

You already found that it works, so what is your problem?  If you don't want to use it, or you have issues with it, contact Roxio, and move on.

You are not supposed to grant Administrative Privileges to everyone that is on the computer. That is the point of NTFS and alot of other items in Windows XP. Otherwise we can go back to FAT 16 or 32.

The program is advertised to work on Windows XP and 2000. If it shows the behavior that I see then that must be a misprint because privileges are not being handled correctly. I have not found that the program works CORRECTLY. If it worked correctly I would not have left the original message.

I paid for the product so I expect I have a right to use it and expect it to work correctly and I did contact Roxio but like most of the other users here I have found that they are not responding to any support messages.

As for me moving on, I think I have just as much right to be posting on this forum as you do. Are you perhaps the owner of Roxio? My impression is that you are not nearly the expert that you think and if you are considered an expert on this forum then this forum is the wrong place to look for proper advise on anything.

You said in an earlier post you were here looking for technical answers. Well, this is a user forum that they (Roxio/Sonic) only moderate. The only way to get technical information is to contact Roxio. If you aren't getting responses to tickets you've sent them, you might want to consider using one of the other options for contacting them.

One thing you might try doing is changing the permissions in your registry for the Roxio and Sonic entries.

I never claimed to be an expert but I do know why XP has Administrative Privileges, and sure isn't what you said about NTFS, which is a file structure.

The program works, as advertised, for me.  If you want others on your computer to use the software, then you have to give them permission to do so.
