First Blue Screen, Now Cannot Copy Help

"Cannot copy 'file name'. Files on this CD-Rom drive are read only. You cannot copy or move files over to this CD-Rom drive"
I've replicated the above several times, but uninstalling, re-installing and going thru the entire process, at least 5-6 times. Cannot find any infomation on the Roxio website that addresses this and have, first been unable to call due to their time availbility and mine and second, reluctant to call to pay for support on a newly purchased product.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER remove anything writable from a WinXP system in ANY manner other than right-click > eject !!!!
It assume it can write the TOC (Table of Contents) when it is censored-well-and-ready, and will do so before then only if you use the eject command.
Otherwise, it will trash the CD, Zip disc, Zip drive, whatever it can sink its fangs into.
BTW - I hope you aren't using Packet Writing for backup. The only thing Packet -Writing is good for is losing all information on the disc permanantly. And RW media will fade to blank over time, taking all the data with it. You might want to drop by the ECDC 5 Forum and read the FREQUENT ANSWRS post for further info.

Lynn,
Thanks for the info. I don't rely on the CD-Rw as a back-up, only to be able to take files to a client on a daily basis, I do my regular backup to an external hard drive.
What I appear to have found, is that Roxio does not support my CD-RW drive. I have a Sony CD-RW CRX217E, that does not appear on the 'compatibility list.
Now what do I do?
Thanks for all your help!

V.6 can recognize newer drives by querying the drive, it is only the older Versions that need to have the list already in the software. So that doesn't mean anything.
Have you been ejecting the disc via the button on the burner drive? That would have exactly the results you have described.
Does your client have a USB port? If so, a flash drive would do it, and it's a lot harder for WinXP to dig its fangs into.

Lynn,
Again, thanks. I've actually tried to eject the disk several ways. By using the button on the drive, by right clicking the drive in Explorer and by using the eject command in the Drag to Disc. They all cause the same probelm.
I have a flash drive, but I also have several clients and I don't want to spend more money on additional flash drives for each of them.
My problem now though has changed. I no longer have the system shut down when trying to eject a disk, however, I can no longer drag files to the disk, it tells me it's 'read only' and I know it's not.
I called the tech support group and they emailed me directions to run 'FilePermissions.exe', which I attempted to do, however when attempting to run it, it advises I must be an 'administrator', which I am.
I'm real close to giving up, but don't know what other options I have. I had used an older version of this software on my old computer and NEVER had these kind of problems.

Sure, you can only use it once, but it's only about 20 cents each by the spindle - noticibly less than a Flash drive.

Lynn,
Thanks again for your advice. I frankly was unaware of Creator Classic but am now. This however does not solve my problem, at least not seamlessly. What I do and have done for years, up until now, is drag my daily updated files from the hard drive to a CD-RW disk that is specific to my client(s). Each CD-RW had specific folders and sub-folders so it was easy to just find and drag the latest files to the disc. With Creator Classic, when I 'move' new files to the CD-R, which by the way allows me to add to it so I don't need a new one everytime, there is no way to drag that specific file to it's intended folder, say 'Purchase Orders'. What completely frustrates me is that I did this on my old computer for 3-4 years, yes everye once in a while it fried a disc and I needed to make a new one, but at least it was simple. Now I have a brand new computer, newer software and I can't do what I've been doing for years.
I'm not sure there are any other options to get back to where I was, but I'm open to any ideas. I'll even consider updating to yet a newer version, even though I just bought version 6, not knowing there were newer ones out already.
Thanks in advance for your help.

While I'm not thrilled with Version 6 - it was briefly on my computer between ECDC 4 and ECDC 5 - the problem is WinXP.
Have you ever tried right-clicking on the file you want to move, and following the prompts of the built-in WinXP burning? I used it once, and haven't had cause to use it again. I know it was finalized enough to read in the Win98 SE; I don't know if more could be added or not. Perhaps James Hardin will add some details on that.
While I don't advocate using CD-RW for anything but testing, you could try using them IF you NEVER use the eject button on the drive - either the mouse or the Internet Explorer command, and give it a LONG time before it ejects.
This applies to ANY storage device brought into the general vicinity of a WinXP computer - Zip disc, Floppy disc, whatever. (My main computer remains the Win98 SE; I use the 2.4GHz WinXP computer for heavy-duty work like scanning and CD burning - its chief fault being WinXP.)
I get the impression you bring the disc to the client and leave it there, as opposed to transferring the file, or otherwise you could just put the file on a Flash drive (much harder for WinXP to damage, altho after losing a Zip drive and 3 discs I wised up and use the mouse command with everything), or a floppy (use the mouse command to eject) and carry it over. There are external floppy drives, assuming everyone has either a USB port or an internal floppy drive.
WinXP has impressed me. I don't think I will consider a WinVista.
