Hello! I transfered a old home movie from VHS to DVD...I want to download it to my computer and send it to iMovie then to iDVD. The problem is that I keep getting an error code from Quicktime saying that Error opening movie--The movie could not be opened...and when I try to send it to iMovie it says Error during import- The file could not be imported. The file Macintosh/HD/Users/*myname*/Movies/Yesvideo1.mp4 cant be imported . Quicktime could not parse it. -2048. What am I doing wrong? I downloaded the movie under PLAYER --DVD Disc then MPEG- 4 Player standard 2GB. Can anyone help me?
Thanks

The process you followed should have worked. My only suggestion is to trash the .mp4 file and try again. You might also check the iMovie or QuickTime forums at discussions.apple.com for other posts regarding those error messages.

Maybe you should try a different method. I import VHS and other analogue formats through my Canon DV camcorder directly into IMovie. You just need a digital camcorder that has this capability.

well one other suggestion... sadly it is not using popcorn try using handbrake or even MPEG Streamclip if you keep having issues they also take DVD files to quicktime formats... good luck

I had this same problem. Also when I tried to open the file in my movies folder, it said "the movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie" I am brand new to this software and about to go crazy!!
