There is another instance in which installation won't read the CD Key. If you have a Dell computer with Roxio EMC Dell Edition on it, you will also have to use the reinstallation patch before installing EMC 9.

It's usually recommended you uninstall the OEM version completely (and run a registry cleaner afterwards to make sure it's completely gone) before you attempt to install the full version

Roxio didn't have that in the installation wizard. It uninstalled every module individually. I wish I had uninstalled it from Programs first. I don't know about registry cleaners. I had one trash a computer a couple of years ago.
