I was told that my loss of video quality may be because I import my saved Windows Movie Maker file to my EMC 9 project. I was told to save it as an AVI file instead of WMM file. How do I do that and will it make a difference in video quality on my EMC 9 project?

That would have to be changed in WMM.That's what you're using to import(or capture) the video.EMC9 is only using the imported file to make the DVD.
You can do everything from EMC9 including importing your original video. If you do then you have many choices for a format type.

Hopefully you saved all your work in WMM project file. Not just output it to WMV. To save as DV AVI:

Open Windows Movie Maker
Load the project
Click on 'Save to my computer'
Select folder and filename, Click NEXT
Click on SHOW MORE CHOICES and then select OTHER SETTINGS.
In that drop-down list, choose DV-AVI
Click NEXT to output the file

This will output the best quality possible and the file can be used in Videowave or MyDVD 9.
