Content CD- then all hell broke loose....

All was well until I installed the Content CD and then launched 'Home'. It keeps searching for 7a46D.MSI which is not on either CD.

Any idea what is causing this?

Try a repair install and see if that works.  Sounds like it may be a corrupted file.
