I've created a project with 4 small movies in it & changed...

Menu Style
Button Style
Menu Background
Menu Audio

Everything looks great... but when I try Preview, (and after waiting until it's "loaded") the music plays... "sometimes", the contols work until I select a title to play,... then the screen goes black & nothing plays.  If I click Menu, everything stops, but does not "re-Load".  I must close the screen & click Preview again, but the result is the same whatever movie I select.  "Preview" just doesn't work.  So, I burned a DVD+R anyway.  What I get is the Menu & buttons that don't work (although it looks like the movies were burned onto the DVD).

Windows XP Media Center Addition, Service Pack 2
Dimension XPS 600, Intel Pentium D 830 (3.0GHz) w/Dual Core Technology
256MB Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX
Internet Explorer 7

Can anyone help???

For some odd reason, we are seeing problems with higher end nVidia cards.  Force to software render and see if that helps.

Run MyDVD
Click the TOOLS menu and then OPTIONS
Click the software button and then OK
Now try the preview.

Be aware that 3D transitions and effects are NOT available with software rendering. If you have used any of these, you still may have a problem at those points. You may have to change them before trying to render.

I had "Forced to software render" before writing.  While "Hardware" was checked, Preview would not even show the buttons "before" the screen went black.  I have not used any 3D transitions and effects.
After reading through MANY more of the posts here, I started over, but DID NOT make any changes to:

Menu Style
Button Style
Menu Background
Menu Audio

IF I accept the "canned" Styles, Background & Audio... Preview works perfectly & I was able to burn a DVD+R that works fine..

However, the program is of no value to me if I can't edit these areas!  I was useing EMC7.5 before... with no problems!  In my attempts to get EMC9 to work, I've done a clean install & used Windows Install Cleanup (all per the instructions that I found here) THREE TIMES.

I hope that you can offer another suggestion.

Hi Carrie,

Please post the types fo files you used for the the menu background and menu audio.  That is, was the new menu background a picture and what was it's format, jpg, png, bmp, etc.?  If the menu background was a video, was it MPEG2, AVI, WMV, DIVX, etc.?  Finally, was the audio a mp3, wav, wma, etc. type file?

The reason I ask is that I have had some problems with wmv and wma files in projects and I know others have had some problems with DIVX video files.

I used a Jpg image for background & an Mp3 audio.

I've uninstalled & re-installed this program "again" (3 or 4 times now!) ... also WITH the help of DELL & after having my entire system checked out.  The problem remains!!  DELL & I agree that this is a problem with the software.... NOTHING ELSE.

Also, I'm getting NO HELP from Roxio!  I can't tell you how ANGRY I am!!

also, if you only use a custom menu background with audio, does it work fro you? If you use a default menu with n audio file of your choice, does it work?

To be honest, I don't remember because I've been fighting with it since I got it the 1st week of Jan. 2007!  My patience have run out over & over again & my temper gets the best of me for a week or so at a time.

WHY in God's name isn't there a patch for EMC 7.5 so that it will work with IE7?  I was perfectly happy with EMC 7.5.  Now, I CAN'T go back to IE6 AND EMC 9 just WILL NOT WORK.

I've checked & double checked EVERYTHING!

My Computer:
Windows XP Media Center Addition, Service Pack 2
Dimension XPS 600, Intel Pentium D 830 (3.0GHz) w/Dual Core Technology
256MB Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX
Display settings: 1024x768, 32-bit
Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7 installed
All drivers are “up to date”

STILL... MyDVD 9 will not preview and burn the DVD that I want to create.  I use exactly the same options in the same way that I was able to do it when I had EMC 7.5 with MyDVD.  I am using the very same background jpg photo, the exact same music mp3, & selected the same style of button to replace all the "canned" stuff that I have used before (BTW what is with this "Main Menus & Chapter Menus bundle" with 2 different styles??  It's confusing & not necessary!).  Also, I'm using the same Movie Clips that I created with VideoWave.

So, WHY am I having trouble?

Why do I keep reading that Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7 are a problem for EMC9 when Minimum System Requirements for EMC9 state..
• Windows Media Player 10 or higher for Windows Vista and Windows XP systems
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher
???

Basically, IE7 and WMP11 were developed for Vista. MS decided to back port those for XP. They made changes to the OS kernel which has screwed up a LOT of apps (and not just Roxio ones).

If you want to roll back to 7.5, that's fine but you WILL have to remove IE7 and WMP11 from the computer.

This isn't Roxio's fault - it was MS who put those apps out this year and to expect a 3 year old program to be updated (especially when it's two generations back) is not a viable option. You may as well ask why ECD 4, 5, 6 etc aren't beibng updated to work with the latest MS patches.

If you like the look and feel of tabbed browsers anyway, I'd strinly recommend you use Firefox instead

Most would recommend removing IE7 and WMP 11.  Neither were 'designed' for WinXP as Daithi stated and continues to cause many problems in WinXP.  Until MICROSOFT makes these more compatible, I would stay away from them.
