Hi

I'm new to DVD creating/editing and have just got EMC 9.  I've got a movie clip which a friend put together for me and I'm trying to burn it onto a DVD.

When I use "preview" in EMC9, I get both the audio and video, but when I burn a DVD, the audio is missing.

I'd appreciate any and all assistance!

Thanks
Francine

What type of video file is this?  Try running GSpot and see if you have the proper codecs.  If it's playing in preview, it should work fine in the finished dvd but you might be missing a codec.

Hi

Thanks for the prompt reply - it's much appreciated.

I've downloaded Gspot, but to be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for...

The clip that I've got is made up of 9 files, although only 5 get picked up when I add the movie.  They are:
.layout file of 2kb
IFO file of 14kb  - called VIDEO_TS
VOB file of 154kb - also called VIDEO_TS (gets picked up)
BUP file of 14kb - VIDEO_TS.BUP
LAY file of 4kb - VOB_DATA.LAY
IFO file of 18kb  - VTS_01_0 (gets picked up)
VOB file of 154kb - VTS_01_0 (gets picked up)
BUP file of 18kb - VTS_01_0.BUP
VOB file of 78,820kb - VTS_01_1 (gets picked up)

The final file that gets picked up is a DVD file entitled "VIDEO_TS" of 14kb - I'm not sure if that the IFO or BUP file.

What should I be putting in GSPOT?

Thanks
Francine

Exactly how are you burning this to dvd?  If these files are in a video folder, you can use Disc Copier and if you only want some of those files, you can also use Disc Copier in Video Compilation mode.
Are you actually editing these files or just trying to copy them to a dvd?

Hi Paul

I'm using "MyDVD 9" to do this - I've created my menu and then I go into the "Add Movie" option, select all the files I've listed, and add the "movie".  When I preview, it's perfect, but when I burn, I get the menu and the video, but no audio against the video portion (although I do get the cheesy audio that comes as standard with the menu).

Does that make sense?

Thanks
Francine

Yes it does but not why you aren't getting any sound.  Do you have any RW's around that you can play with?  If so or if you don't mind using a regular disc, try using Disc Copier and just burning the files to disc and see if the sound shows up on that disc.
In answer to your earlier Gspot question, if you import one of the vob files into Gspot and let it load, you should be able to see in the audio section whether or not you have the proper codecs to render the file.  gspot.jpg
Under the 'codec' area circled, what do you see after you've pressed '2' then '3' in this area?

Hi Paul

It says Audio Render OK and it plays without any problems.  The Codec it says it's using is DVD_LPCM_AUDIO.

Thanks
Francine

I'm not sure what the problem is Francine.  Seems to me this shouldn't be happening based on what you're telling me and seeing. Did you try to burn directly into Disc Copier to see what you end up with and bypassing MyDVD completely?

That's great Francine but that doesn't really solve your problem.  You wanted to make your own menu in MyDVD and that doesn't work, and I'm not sure why. But, good news is better than bad news.
Thanks for letting me know.

I am havnig the same exact problem.  Here's what I've tried:

I copy a movie file into my project (I'm using an AVI with no sound)
Add an audio WAV File that is 44.1KHz, 16 bit stereo.
PREVIEW works fine.  Sound is there, no problems.
Once I BURN the movie and play it on any DVD player (either my computer or my home deck) I get NO SOUND on my video clip.  The DVD MEnu audio works fine.  But my video has no sound.

Now I have also tried using a different sound source.  I grabbed a WMV file out of my audio library and it did the same thing.

I have also installed Roxio on a 2nd OS boot (Windows Vista Business) and it does the exact same thing!  This is quite odd to say the least!

Anyone have any ideas?  I've been using Roxio 7 on this same system for ages, and it worked fine.  The only reason I upgraded is because I wanted IE 7 support.  I am currently using Roxio EMC 9 Suite and my main OS is XP Pro.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the many times you"ve help me with your advice. This is my first post and I"ve had Creator 9 for a couple months now. I love it. Another learning curve.  Im using a Dell XPS600 2g ram and 250 g hard drive. Im recording backgroud audio via keyboard to AW4416 to MY8 via fiber optics to RME9636 hammerfall
into adobe audition. My latest project has a sixty second intro on the music track, another sixty seconds at 42 mins and a sixty second clip with the outro. Plays fine in videowave on music track and sfx track but when I burn DVD the middle clip is missing. Agin thanks for your advice and I look foward to riding the curve
