I would like more information about the above-named file now on Roxio's server, described in the Roxio Knowledgebase (ID#000131CR) as "the Roxio DLA Update" and available at this link.

My installation of Roxio DLA is currently working well, but I would of course like to benefit from any available "Update," as updates usually have bug-fixes and improve reliability.  What gives me pause is that I see no version/build information, either as to which DLA versions to which the "Update" should be applied, or, what version the program becomes, after being updated.  I prefer not to play "Russian roulette" with my Windows installation. smile.gif

First, I want to make sure this is the right file for me, but I have yet to see a complete "readme" or anything labeled "documentation" that would reassure me.  The only information I see is a brief "How To" for loading and executing it, with information on exactly what it does being non-existent and inconsistent.

For example:
  • Is this file in fact an "Update" for (anyone who is running) Roxio's DLA?
or is it exclusively a patch for those (lucky smile.gif ) folks who are tyring to run it on Windows Vista?
Or, is it an entirely new piece of software that replaces Roxio DLA?
It is described as all of the above, depending upon where one looks ...  wink.gif
  • The update/patch's filename gives doubts -- is it for DLA or D2D?
Whatever its function, most users would hesitate to to use an "Update"
with a file having a name inconsistent with the program being updated.
(See above comment on Russian roulette. smile.gif )
I'd like some reassurance before applying a "Drag2Disc" update to "DLA."
  • Upon executing the downloaded file, it identifies itself
as neither an "Update" or a patch, but as yet something else:
The opening screen informs the user he is intalling Drag2Disc.
Should the user have been prompted to first uninstall DLA?
If by running this program we are in fact installing a new program, I would like to first see a list of the advantages and disadvantages of the change/update/replacement/or, whatever is being offered. blink.gif

System Information:
Windows 2000 Professional (running fine, no inclination to go to Vista)
Roxio DLA_v5.20, build 520B08H (also running fine, and want to keep it that way.)

The knowledgebase article you referenced in this post states that this is a fix for an issue that can occur with Windows Vista.  If you are not running Vista, do not install this patch.

Thanks for the lightning-fast response! smile.gif

My initial impression was the same as what you said, but then as I continued to read (note "bulleted" points listed in original post) the matter became confused.  I expect you must have some "inside information" on what this file is, and is not.  We really appreciate having moderators to interpret for us, at times like this.

One reason for the confusion was, I was really hoping to discover an update (not an upgrade, don't want that) for the above-mentioned Roxio DLA, with a copyright year of 2005, and that is getting a bit old.  But, looking for an update is the topic for a new thread, and I'm hoping you'll also be there to help.

Thanks again,
RonCam

>>>>>>>>>> EDIT <<<<<<<<<<
Problem is now 100% clarified.  According to a thread elsewhere on the Roxio fourms, with GranPaBruce and James Hardin, the reason for the the (correct) advice from willatrox is:  Whether patched OR unpatched for Vista, D2Dv9 (see 3rd bullet as to what displays as execution begins) is incompatible with the NT-family starting with Windows 2000 (and lower), and therefore will refuse to load on these systems.  Hope this may be of help to anyone following this thread who is not on XP or Vista and was wondering if they should try D2Dv9 in any form ... don't bother, it won't load.  Sorry it wasn't possible to stay compatible with 2K ...
