There seems to be a mandatory update available  for Sightspeed-should I apply it to the Roxio edition?

I don't think it would hurt.Just create a restore point beforehand and you'll be able to go back if it causes problems.SightSpeed is a seperate app so I don't think it's going to cause a problem with anything.

The downloaded file is called SightSpeedInstallRoxio.exe, so I deduce it is specifically for Roxio-bundled SightSpeed.

Somewhat oddly, although I downloaded the whole file (6.76MB), on install, it started off by downloading the setup file from the internet again. Installed fine over the top of existing.
