Hi,
When I try to bring an .avi file of a concert into EMC9, the file has the "buster" sign on it (The red circle with the angled line through it). I've downloaded all of the newest codecs and driver updates for my cards.
What does this usually mean?
Thanks!

It means it is a non-standard avi file. Try the DivX converter on it.

Another possibility (if this occurs for all avi divx files), if you installed Divx codecs from DivX.com is that there is a conflict relating to the divxdec.ax file from divx and the DivXDec.ax file from Roxio. For resolution, see

I appreciate both replys. After trying the step-by-step described in jeanrosenfields link, it still hasn't changed anything. Also, it never says in the instructions what to do with the c:\windows\system32\divxdec.ax file after you've copied it to your desktop and finished everything else. Should it be deleted?
James, how exactly does one run Divx converter? When I click on the Convert Video link on the Home Page of EMC9, it brings up Disc Copier. Where do I go from there?
I should also add that when I open this .avi file in Media Player Classic, it works to a tee, but it won't open in Windows Media Player 11.
Thanks again for any possible solution

Not James, but maybe I can answer your question about converting the file: In disk copier click video compilation, click add movies, navigate to the file you want to convert. If it accepts it, it will show in the left pane. In the right pane select the format you want to convert to, select file/folder, check the options, then click save as (the burn button changes to save as when you select file/folder). In the save as window select where you want to save, then the encoding window opens showing conversion progress (which can take some time).

Thanks again Jean, but let me ask you this- what if the file doesn't show up in the left pane? Because that's exactly what's happening...

If it cannot load it, I guess it's incompatible, or it may be corrupt (have you been able to play it in any player?).
You could try another conversion app.
Super is free,
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
or mediacoder, also free.
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
How big is the file? If not too large for email attachment and you are willing to send it to me, I could try and see if it is really a problem with the file or with your EMC 9 /Divx codecs, and/or convert it for you to what you want.
PM me if you want to try that route, so I can give you an email address.

Hey jeanrosenfeld, thanks so much for the offer, but the file's almost a Gig, so I think e-mail is out of the question.
Like I said before, I can view it in Classic Media Player, but not in Media Player 11, and when I try to bring it up in the converter, EMC9 doesn't even see it. I'll try those other programs you suggested. If that doesn't work, i'll just have to fork over the 25 bucks for the DVD

If it is a commercial file,it may be DRM protected. Not sure if the apps I referred to would help in that case, but there are others if you research with Google (not permitted to advise on how to overcome protection).
