I've run the install now for the fifth time in about three weeks trying to get anything from this Roxio suite loaded and still have my DVDRW drive working. It looked like there was a windows update that might have been the one I was waiting on to correct the "typo" but noooooo. dry.gif

In this latest attempt, I installed complete, then uninstalled the Drag-To-Disc program, as this was stated to be the way to get this to work.

Well no dice. Now I have Roxio installed and no DVDRW to use with it.

The last install, which was very similar to this one. I went ahead and edited the registry entries to remove the lower and upper filter entries. Of course none of the Roxio stuff would work after that.

WTF???? angry.gif

It doesn't appear that either Microsoft or Sonic Solutions is in any big hurry to correct the "typo" mentioned so often that has resulted in this piece (or multiple pieces) of uselessware.

Do I have to go with the "Option 2" approach now and uninstall (again) clean up the registries and then install, fail again, and use the program that enables the windows installer to run in safe mode???? Or should I just sit around with these two coasters (I mean program CD's) until Microsoft or Roxio get of their asses to correct the problem?

Sounds like you are having a bad run there Cazenave26?
if it was me id try them all on a clean install, even the Dell one...

But a few questions?, when you say clean install?, are you saying that you have formated the drive and installed vista again freash of the vista DVD? or are you using recovery cd's from a maker like HP or Dell?

also try this, if you are doing the install fresh, just install vista AS IS (NO drivers)NONE (also remove your self off the internet so no updates can be installed to)
then even though you may have low video disply or no sound ect.... install EMC9 first then reboot and remove Drag to disk only ... reboot and see if you still have your dvd drive?, if you do then it sounds like it may be one of your drivers doing this... IE: video driver or sound driver? or an update from Microsoft?

hope this gives you some leads on solving the issue

My Vista install was on a brand new computer, so it was about as clean as you can get. I've tried multiple installs of the Roxio software and had to back them out. The top excuse on this problem has been that a typo in a windows update created the problem with the Roxio driver. I find that somewhat questionable as Roxio has decided to recertify the entire suite. At this point, I'm not going to go through a dump and reinstall of the Vista to have their driver blow-up my DVDRW again. They get two more weeks, then they get the software back.

This just isn't worth the hassle anymore. The problem has been out there for more than a month and they can't get it resolved??? I don't care how many programs are in the suite, it's one that is killing everyone's system trying to install it.

Thanks for the ideas, but I can't let this latest Roxio virus, I mean software, eat any more time.
