I have been using Easy CD & DVD Creator 6.0 for several years, but when I recently got a new Dell XPS410 with a double layer capable drive, I found that it didn't recognize the DVD+R DL discs I bought to try it out. If I buy new software to replace Easy Creator 6.0, is there any way I can find out ahead of time whether it will work with my drive ? I have XP Pro on my computer and have DirectX 9.0c installed. I actually have 2 optical drives - a Sony CRX310S and a TSSTcorp TS-H553A. I think the Sony only writes CDs and reads DVDs while the TSSTcorp drive can read and write both CDs and DVDs. Any help would be appreciated.

V9 will do DL discs. The only limitation is that Classic cannot write DVD-R DL as Sessions. It can do DVD+R DL.

You also should check to make sure that the "Firmware" for that particular drive is up to date. Here is a link to a sight that has the firmware for that drive:

http://www.toshibaer.com/firmware/index.php?path=TS-H553A/

You can check to see what firmware version you have by going to START--CONTROL PANEL--SYSTEM--HARDWARE--DEVICE MANAGER and click on the little "+" next to DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES, then right click on that drive and then click on PROPERTIES, then click on the DETAILS (tab). You should see the version of the firmware for that drive usually right after the name of the drive.

Does My DVD version 9 burn to DVD+R DL? If it does I'm going to upgrade.
Thank you.

Not only does it support DVD DL, it also supports BlueRay. You may have to do some testing though. Check your burner's website for brand of DL media that have been tested on that burner. Even at that, some set top DVD players may still have trouble playing them back.

To give you follow-up, I downloaded My DVD v 9.0 and successfully burned a double layer DVD+R and even made a copy of it with Record Now, all with Memorex double layer DVD+R. Fantastic! Thanks again!
