I can no longer copy DVDs.  I have a Plextor 760A burner that has up to date firmware.  I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2.  The program allows me to copy CDs with no problem.  When I try to copy a DVD the program writes the information to the hard drive (60 gigs of usable space) and then asks for a new DVD.  I insert the new DVD and get an error message saying that there was an error writing to the hard drive and I should make sure I have enough space.  I did a "repair" (re-install) of the software but to no avail.  If I make an image and try and burn the image to the disk the program says it cannot write to the disk even though it can copy and burn CDs on the same Plextor drive.  Any suggestions?

Go into Device Manager, and under IDE ATA/Atapi Controllers, click on the Secondary IDE Channel, right click it, select Properties,  select Advanced, and see if it is running in PIO mode. If it is, delete it, reboot, and let Windows find it again.  Check to see if it is running Ultra DMA Mode 2 or 4.

Thanks for the response.  I checked and found that Transfer Mode = DMS If Available and Current = Multi-Word DMA Mode 2.  Do you have any other ideas?  As a side note, about a month or so ago I wiped my hard drive clean, reformatted it with Windows XP, updated XP and installed SP2.  After that I re-inatalled EMC-8 and this is the first time since then that I tried to copy a DVD.

I hope someone else has an idea, because it sounds like that Plextor may be dead or dying.  My Plextor 716A went belly up about 2 months after the warranty expired, and it did not get heavy use.  The symptoms were the same as yours.

Well, the problem is solved.  Prior to this time, I always copied CDs and DVDs using the Copy Disc portion of the Copy Module.  This has always worked in the past.  I decided to try copy DVD Movies and this worked like a charm.  Thanks again for your help.
