The cannon DV camera is plugged in to my ATI plugs
When I go to video Capture and click on the ati icon then go to the start capture
Nothing happens. Do I need the eee 1394 cable or do I need some kind of firewire to obtain the desired results?
Using Roxie 7.5 just installed on my Dell

Get a Firewire (IEEE1394) cable and plug one end into your Canyon camera (Make sure the cable has a connection type that will fit you camera port) and plug the other end into a firewire port on your computer. Then open EMC 7.5 and choose the capture Video program and go from there.

Not confusing at all: EMC 7.5 states that it requires a Firewire connection to capture from DV camcorders. Other software may work different.

Make sure that your Canon has a firewire output and your computer has a firewire input.  If they do, make sure that you get the correct firewire cable, and don't buy cheap, or you will end up buying twice.

You could also just capture that video with Windows Movie Maker....using the DV AVI setting.

Then you can import the video into EMC 7.   ( That just involves finding the file on the hard drive.)
