I've just reinstalled EMC7 on a new computer (XP SP2) and now I can't copy and paste files/folders without getting the following error message.

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 disk and click ok.

If I cancel that window, I get,

Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.  The Windows Installer cannot continue.

Selecting "OK" then goes ahead and copys and pastes normally.

This has only started happening since I reinstalled on this computer.  On my previous system (XP SP2) it worked fine.
Have I missed something in the setup or options?

Thanks

Brian

If it is the "Drag to Disc" program you are referring to, be advised that Packet-Writing (Drag to Disc, DirectCD, Nero's InCD, Sonic's DLA, etc) has a tendancy to be fussy at best (insisting on the exact same Operating System and program Version, for instance - you might be plus or minus an update somewhere) to work, is known to fail for any reason or none at all.

If the idea is to KEEP the data, NEVER use a Packet-Writing program.

Use either the built-in WinXP burning, or Classic Creator if you want to KEEP the data.

Something may have gone bad on the install.  What happens if you put in the disk, when it asks you to?

Also, do you have IE 7 (Internet Explorer 7) on your computer?  If so, you have to roll back to IE 6.

Lynn,
I am not sure now what program I'm using to copy and paste.  I was always under the impression that Windows handled this function.  I'm talking here about creating a shortcut and moving it to the desktop, or moving a file from one folder to another, not actually burning backups to DVD.  I was not aware that EMC was handling this operation.

However, I think I have solved the problem.  As Bruce suggested, I put the Roxio CD in when the program asked for it, and a modify/repair/delete dialogue appeared.  I selected repair, and the program just went into hang mode.  Using the Task Manager, I crashed out of the installation program, and now everything is working as it used to.

Thank you both for your interest and help.  Much appreciated.   biggrin.gif

Cheers
