I have a few albums on hard drive without proper mp3 tags, so i am trying to restore the correct information about the songs, i am using the Edit Audio Tags as it says it can restore files from the hard drive, it recognises the album and all the track data but thats it , it wont update the information on the hard drive , as soon as i go into the files they are still without the tags, but if i go into the Edit Audio Tags and add files it again recognises the album and tracks but does not want to save them on the hard drive, i click the button Done expecting this to change and save the tags but all it seems to do is take you out of the program, is there something i am doing wrong or is the program not doing what i thought it would do, otherwise can anyone recommend a tag editor that can recognise albums from a hard drive as apposed to inserting a cd each time, i thought i was on a winner as the Edit Audio Tags recognised the albums immediately but i cannot get it to update and save

Make sure you have "Embed or replace....." checked off.It worked fine for me with an mp3 I have on my hard drive.I changed the Album title, closed Tag Editor, closed the Home app, reopened everything and checked and the changed title was still there.

Still no joy, i am using vista ultimate  and tried a different approach which is opening  a sound track, right click and Edit Song Information which opens the Edit Audio Tags, the song is highlighted  under the select one or more tracks, and the Audio Tag has all the information, the check boxes are unchecked, if i then check Use MusicID tags the information is cleared, if i uncheck the information is put back, everytime program is opened the Use MusicID Tags is unchecked, and still wont save and update

I'm not familiar with Vista, but if the Explorer still works like XP then go to the file you want to change and right click the file and choose "properties" instead of "Edit Song Info" then when the properties dialog pops up choose the "summary" tab, when the summary tab is forward then choose advanced and you can manually enter the info if you know what it's supposed to be.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, you can sort of manually edit the tags, but that will take too long as i have a few albums, i dont understand why its not being updated

I don't know either but maybe "Windows defender"  ninja.gif or DRM or both thinks you're not supposed to have those MP3 files.

I also have found that the 'Tag Editor' when started from the 'Home/Applications' menu, will not update the source files - even when 'Embed or replace tags inside the audio files' is checked.

However, when run from 'Rename Audio Files', or, Media Manager, the tags are updated!

Running from 'Rename Audio Files'... (preferred method)
1. Start 'Rename Audio Files'from the 'Home/Applications' menu.
2. When the 'Media Selector' appears, select the music files you want updated. (Do not select 'OK')
3. Select the 'Tag Editor' icon just right of the path name. It looks like a musical note.
4. Make sure 'Embed or replace...' is checked.
5. Click 'MusicID', then when complete, 'Done'. Your files will be updated.
The reason I don't add them to 'Rename Audio Files' is that you cannot remove them without exiting the
program.

Running from 'Media Manager'...
1. Start Media Manager.
2. Select the music files you want updated.
3. Right click the files, and select 'Edit Audio Tags'. Follow same process outlined above for 'Tage Editor'.
