When i formated my harddrive i backup my text files and some photos but when i go to restore them i get a error can not restore text file the same go's for the photo what is going on?

When i formated my harddrive i backup my text files and some photos but when i go to restore them i get a error can not restore text file the same go's for the photo what is going on?
