REgarding that Samsung BD-player 1000 they have published a firmwareupdate, that supposidly solves
playback problems for BD-R and BD-RE. Haven't tried it myself but sounds reasonable...
Funny though the Sony is supposed to play BD-Rs. Cause when I asked at the german branch of Sony they said, it does not play BD-Rs, unlike the PS3 which does.

I've used the firmware update on several inits and it works fine with BD-R discs.  As for the Samsung 1200, I've had no problem playing BD-R disc.  Could be I've been lucky

Has anyone tried the new 2.60 firmware update on the Sony BDP-300 or 301? I would be curious to find out
it it supports BDMV. The product page for Sony lists all of the Bluray players as playing BDMV discs.

Since this is an ongoing process and ever changing, too - dispite the fact that some members around here don't like that topic - however: is there an update  on which BD-player a Blu Ray (BD-R or BD-RE) works or not? Today is the 3rd of October 2007... In addition, annoying or not, any experiences with the PS3 Firmware 1.93 yet?
Someone said, it works with 1.9, what about the latest status. I'm getting a PS3 strictly for to play BD-Rs or BD-REs on (my own little productions) and wonder if I can safely update to the latest firmware.
To all of those, who don't want PS3 topics up here, forget about those PS3 forums, they are full of crap and kiddies who behave like babies. I spent hours browsing various forums and my head is spinning by now... rolleyes.gif

The PS3 is probably the safest bet on playback of \BDMV on BD-R/RE.  1.93 fixes the network issue caused by 1.92

I recently updated the firmware for my Panasonic DMP-BD10A to V 2.4.
This update doesn't affect playability of BDMV authored disc (BD-RE) with DVDit Pro HD.

Cheers

Patrick

The following is a compatability list for BDMV discs created with DVDit Pro HD.
Player

Playstation 3 (1.6 + DVDit patch) ------- BD-R, BD-RE

Sony BDP-S1 (1.55)  ------- BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-R (when AACS folder is removed)

Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1  ------- BD-R, BD-RE

Samsung BD-P 1000 (1.0 firmware) ------- BD-R, BD-RE

Samsung BD-P 1200 ------- BD-R (mixed results - could be certain media that works)

Panasonic DMP-BD10 (A) (up to actual 2.4 firmware)------- BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-R

Philips BDP9000 ------- unknown

LG BH-100 ------- no

Help.

This player is not compatible!! However Pioneer ARE working on a new firmware that will conform to the specifications required for this playback. Hold in there it will happen.

Personally I think its good news, that Sony will start shipping new Blu Ray recorders for pc soon. They won't be better than from LG for example, at least the specs. don't show, yet this will force Sony and Panasonic  to include BD-AV and MV formats back into their player firmwares. After all, why should people buy a recorder if they can't play the result...

And then it won't take long, til a professional BD production branch as from Sony will accept an ordinary BD-R as a master for replication.   rolleyes.gif

Just so you guys know, the latest firmware, 3.20, for BDP-S300 adds
BD-r(e) BDMV playback options. Just a heads up.

I just tried the Samsung 1400, and no joy with a Fuji BD-RE. The disk was not bad, as it played just fine after that in a Panasonic DMP-BD10. Is the Samsung 1400 finicky like the Samsung 1200? Is there a list of which media/burners work best?

Update on the Version 2.00 for the PS3: It works. Simple as that. I used a TDK BD-RE and a BD-R and both worked with BDMV no problem at all.

The same disk that did not play in the Samsung1400 does play on the Sony S300 once the firmware is upgraded to 3.2. Good to see Sony headed in the right direction!

From HDV pinnacle Liquid 7.2 HDV (1440 X 1080i/50hz) footage I upscaled with procoder 2 from canopus to HDTV 1920 X 1080 progressive/24p and I could only burn it on BD with a 3 minute clip. A 25 minute clip was not accepted. Then having the same hdv footage upscaled in canopus procoder to a HDTV 1920 / 29,97progressive even the long film burned just fine - and played in the PS3 fine as well. (in procoder set on "no closed gops")
There are still many little issues with hd stuff, if everything and every flag is set correctly - so one just needs to test til success and last but not least: never change a winning system!

I saved all my settings to make sure, it works when producing a professional film.

The only time you should be outputting to 24p is if your footage has pulldown in it.
The next reasonable question is - why output to NTSC progressive?  Just use PAL interlaced, there's no benefit in doing what you are doing.

I purchased a Samsung BDP-1400 which I had tested at the store as able to play BD-R and BD-RE.  However,  after a few days the one I brought home began to make cyclical noises like a motor driving the laser somewhere and would not read any disk.  BD-ROM or BD-R or BD-RE.

The Samsung website gives mixed messages -- under Support FAQs it says BD-R and BD-RE are supported, but when I took a closer look at the manual it lists the disks as incompatible, but does not say they will cause damage.  So I don't know if I had a bad player or the burned BD-R or BD-RE caused this.

Is there anyone out there who owns a BDP-1400 who has been playing it for some period of time (like a couple months at least).  I need to know, as I got a replacement and I could go for a different player if need be.

Thanks,

Bill in Ohio

I decided to trade in my Samsung for the Sony BDP S300 and installed the firmware update 3.3 without any issues.  I then played my BD-R video (first one I made) and the menu flickeered on and off.  However the last project on BD-R and BD-RE worked exactly as advertised.

My only problem is the player has such a big box, it won't fit where I wanted to put it.

Is it necessary to have the AACSS folder for the disks to play OK on the PS3?
