Has anyone tried the new 2.60 firmware update on the Sony BDP-300 or 301? I would be curious to find out
it it supports BDMV. The product page for Sony lists all of the Bluray players as playing BDMV discs.

Yes.  I just bought the Sony BDP S300 a couple of days ago and burned to a BD-RE and it played just fine after I loaded up the firmware update for the player.

Yes, I have the BDPS500 and have tried BD-RE which works fine. It will playback disks created with DVDit Pro HD (and Nero) on BD-RE. Nero suffers from lip sync and interlacing problems. DVDit Pro HD discs work perfectly.

Has anyone tried the Panasonic DMPBD30K player with BD-R/RE?  The manual states that the player is compatible with both single and dual layer.

Thanks,
Diamond Dave

dear scott

First of all congratulations for the great forum you guys have here.  smile.gif

i am about to buy dvdit pro since ive been looking for a long time for an authoring software for Blu ray.

I have a bdp s1 sony with the latest firmware. I ve been able to play blu ray files  burned on dvds as data with m2t files (change that extension for mpeg) which play great of course no menues or any authoring.

As you pointed out regarding disc playback compatibility "Sony BDP-S1 (1.55) ------- BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-R (when AACS folder is removed)" I just want to be sure that it means that after version 1.55 the bdp s1 will play blu ray . So is it still valid for the latest firmware? or do i have to go back to 1.55?

Thanks in advance and best regards from bogota colombia south america

Have tested

Sony BDP-S301  (same as 300 model but purchased at Costco)  and updated to latest firmware immediately ... required, otherwise no luck

ALL BD's (RE or R) created with DVDIt HD Pro and also with NERO, burned with either of these or with Cyberlink product or with IMGBurn
work just great.

firmware for 301  link:   http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=BDPS301
firmware for 300  link:   http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list....PS300&LOC=3

I suspect it is the same firware for both products, but have only used the 301 so cannot speak to other

ALSO:  Tested brand new Samsung Model out of box,  works GREAT

I can only speak to this using TDK, Verbatim and LG BD-RE and TDK BD-R, as I am newbie at this

SAMSUNG BD-P-1500    JUST HIT MARKET IN LAST WEEK IN MY AREA
4th Generation Blue Ray Standalone Player
WORKS with all the BD-R and BD-RE                    has ethernet connectivity for upgrades, boots up immediately (unlike Sony above which is slow)
Seems to work great.

Does any one have experience with either of the above playing m2t or other 'video stream' files directly burned to DVD as DATA, or to BLUE RAY Dvd as DATA or with other non conventional BD structure, MKV Matroska etc. or others?

Just tried out Sony BDP-S350 and it works ok with DVDit ProHD made disc - but it is very slow to recognize the disc and slow to go from menu to menu. The Samsung BDP 1500 worked well but much faster than the Sony (displaying the disc and going from menu to menu)

I've been using Memorex BR-R/RE's (2x speed, 25 gb single layer).  I have had several playback problems with BD-R (they actually don't seem to play at all) but the BD-RE's seem to be noticeably more successful.  Is this common?  I see so many people reporting on BD-RE's while a smaller percentage seem to report on BD-R's?

Are particular brands of BD media more prone to problems or success?  I've already invested in several BD-R/RE's but since they are trash once burned (and don't play) I guess it doesn't matter much.  I just want my discs to play.

I bought some Memorex 4x BD-R from Amazon last week. So far all 3 I have burned have worked without problems in my Pioneer BDP-51FD. They don't work in my Samsung BD-P1200, and I'll get info from a friend on the PS3. I paid $76 + shipping for a 15 pack spindle.

The manual for my 51FD says the player is compatible with BD-R format version 2, and BD-RE format version 3. After a fair amount of google searching and posts on AVS, I didn't find any useful information other than no one seems to know much about these formats. Most media doesn't give format version, even if you look on the manufacturers website for info.

I'm also wary about investing much time and $$$ in burning BD media since player manufacturers can remove or "fix" playback ability with FW updates. My Samsung 1200 could play BDMV burned on DVD+R DL up to FW 2.2, was removed in 2.3 with the change being justified by a requirement that BDMV on non-BDROM must have some AACS certification.

My first post BTW.

Can anyone confirm compatibility with burned BDMV projects using the new Panasonic DMP-BD35 / 55 models?

I have the 35 model and am interested in getting DVDit Pro HD, but would like a confirmation that my burns will work before purchasing.

Since the DMP-BD30K has been supporting BD-R/RE, I would take an educated guess that the new version will still support it.  You can also try asking Panny to see if they support BD-R/RE with BDMV.

That's what I thought when bought the DMP-BD35... however, all my BD-R and BD-RE with BDMV which worked perfectly on other players don't play on the 35. I was wondering if DVDit Pro HD would be any different.

In this sense, is there any difference in playability between a regular BDMV on BD-R or BD-RE burnt by DVDit Pro HD, as apposed to say a BDMV which I create with the free TSMuxer and then burn with ImgBurn or Nero? Obviously I don't get nice menus, but as far as playability / compatibility goes, is there any difference?

Have you applied the latest firmware on the player?

I don't there is anything different as far as BDMV on BD-R vs. BD-RE or using TSMuxer.  I think it's really up to the player firmware what it will support.

I have tested BD-R's made with the Avid Authoring software (which I'm told is the same as DVD it Pro HD) in the following players (in store, so I don't know the firmware versions).

Panasonic DMP-BD35
Samsung BDP1500
Onkyo DV-BD606
Pioneer BD51FD

These all worked.

Sony BDP-350
LG BD300

Did not work. (The Sony seemed to play, but just black, without audio.)

It was reported previously that the Sony worked with firmware version 10, so maybe the in-store player was an earlier version.

This was January 3rd in Canada.

(Also, the disk had no menu, in case that's relevant)

Thanks for your help, everyone. I've run some tests. So far, with the latest firmware, H264 and MPEG2 with AC3 5.1 audio works. I have run tests with LPCM 5.1 audio, but with no luck unfortunately! Oh well, at least AC3 works. Not even those worked before I updated the firmware, so hopefully future firmware updates will improve compatibility further still.

By the way, I ran a test or two with the Fuji AACS approved BD-RE disks, and they made no difference whatsoever as to compatibility.

Sony BDP S350 w/latest FW
Will not play BD-R or BD-RE created in Avid DVD by Sonic which I believe is the same software as DVDit Pro HD. Actually, the disc acts as if it is playing but I only get black screen and no sound. Counter on the player progresses as if playing

The same Sony BDP S350 Does play a BDAV (no menus) created on BD-R or BD-RE media using Cyberlink's Power Producer software.
