First of all you should be using Videowave to create ypur project and you should be saving that project to a folder you remember. The next time you open your project, everything should still be there. Don't worry about creating chapters until you are familiar with the basics of adding text, transitions, etc.
Exactly what are you doing at the moment.? Even if you are using myDVD (which is mostly used for creating menus, chapters and burning) all you texts, etc should still be there unless you didn't save your project.
BTW, Videowave projects will have the extension dmsm while myDVD projects have the extension dmsd.

There is a bug in the slide show Assistant in My DVD. It appears that you lost your text but it is there and hiding. If you preview the project in MyDVD it may show up. That doesn't help if you want to edit some text.
As myguggi says, use Video Wave to create your slide show and then use MyDVD to create your DVD menus and add your individual projects (slide shows and videos).
If you just have to use a slide show assistant, use the one on the Home page or under the photos tab. It is three step and you can do final editing in Video Wave.
You can add chapter markers in Video Wave which will carry over to My DVD.
If you have a project and can't add chapters, open MyDVD from the Windows>Start>Programs> Roxio path. Sometimes this helps the program run better -- also good for Video Wave especially if you are doing any manual pan and zoom effects.

I have no idea what Videowave is???? I am using myDVD. To add the text, I go to "edit video", select the pic, click the text button, add the text, click OK and move on the next pic. I do about 10 pics or so, click "next" and then "finish" It appears as though it is complying my changes. When I preview, the text is there. However, later on, I go to add text to more pics...and somehow ALL of the text is gone. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated!

I found videowave...I am going to try this and see if it is any easier. Can I add video footage to this or will that have to be done under the myDVD section?

You can add photos, video, audio, etc, everything you can do while editing in myDVD but I find its much easier to do in Videowave. You can send your VW project directly to myDVD for adding menus and burning.

OK-so I got into VW and added my photos. I started adding text but it will not save to the pic. I add it to the first one, click on the second one and the text is on the second on. Tried to do what I thought was saving the first pic with the text, but that didn't work. The system crashed when I clicked the help button. So far, I am less than pleased with roxio. What do you suggest?

If you want text to be with only one photo, you have to add the text to the internal track for the photo.
You can adjust the duration of the text by moving the right end of the text to the left using the mouse. Move the mouse cursor over the end of the text until you see a double-arrowed bar and then drag to the left
You seem to having some problems with your system. Could you please list your computer specs similar to what I have in my signature.

And perhaps a short video will help. Look at the second one down. Don't add a text effect if you just want static text. Move the text box to where you want it. Remember to turn on the TV safe zone overlay to make sure your text will be seen when it is played on a normal TV.
BTW, you also need to adjust your images to fit into that area also. Use something like image cropper (free download) to make that adajustment.
