System Specs:
Windows XP Pro - all updates current
Pentium D 2.8GHz
1GB RAM
ATI X1650 Series video card
ATI All In Wonder 2006 Edition Capture Card
EMC9
Fresh install of XP... barely anything on it. The only non-Windows processes running at the time are from Roxio. I can usually get a video to capture (capture to high quality DVD settings - 8Mbps) but when either the capture time limit expires or I hit "stop" the program will hang and crash. This happens 100% of the time regardless of the size of the file captured or if I do different capture settings (ie - non mpeg-2). Often times, when I hit the "start" button, the program will crash. This happens maybe 30-40% of the time.
When I reformatted and re-installed XP, I didn't get these crashes for a good month (they happened before reformatting). I checked logs and I didn't install any new software/hardware/updates around the time the crashes started.
The only error that logs is a general program hang:
Hanging application MediaCapture9.exe, version 9.0.2.22, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
Suggestions anyone?
Oh, almost forgot... normally this was simply annoying, as the files would still capture. I'm not sure of the logic behind this, but the last two videos I tried to capture simply disappeared from my computer, or maybe were never captured at all (even though I watched the progress along the way). I've done another video since that has worked, but that worries me. I've got way too many old videos to rip and far too little time to do it in to monkey around with stuff not capturing at all. :-/
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

If it worked fine for a month and then started to fail, I'd strongly suspect that something, somewhere has been installed that is hitting it. You say you didn't install any new updates, s/w, etc, but do you have Automatic Updates turned on in XP? MS will update without you telling it to.
Also, I'd recommend that you run a malware sweep - use either (or both) of these - Lavasoft Adaware SE and Spybot S&D (both are free for personal use)

Also update and run your anti-virus program

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Hello,
Auto-Updates are off. I wait until I have time to review what the updates are before installing them, which doesn't happen nearly as often as it probably should.
Anti-Virus and AdAware are up to date and aren't finding anything bad.
