Hi! I am attempting to create a custom hybrid CD. I am encountering the message "Could not record the disk becuase there was an I/O error. Result code=-36". It appears as though TOAST is unable to see the data that is to burned on to the media. The indicator next to the red burn button does not indicate that the software can see any data. I am able to create a temporary partition, add data to the partition, as well as select Mac/ISO data on the custom hybrid window. I am attempting to accomplish this with reduced (normal) user privileges. Thanks!

Hi wadewj,

Could you please describe this process with more step by step details?

I am having the same error code when backing up a CD.  It actually needs to be a bootable CD to run some utilities on my hardisks.

Your help is greatly appreciated!!

I'm having the same exact problem as wadewj.

I create a temporary partition, put my mac data on it, put my pc data on the ISO segment and share the mac data on the iso segment. I also make a mac autorun with the option when I select my mac partition.

As soon as I press the 'burn' button it crashed with error -36...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There is no Mac autorun with OS X. Apple doesn't allow it. Are you using Toast 5?
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thank you for your reply

Yes, I'm using Toast Titanium 5

Why does the software gives the option if it's not allowed? Is that the problem?

The Mac auto-run is a feature in Toast 5 for OS 9 or earlier. It isn't in the OS X-required Toast 6 or 7. Toast 5 was originally written for OS 9 and was updated to work in OS X. The same issue happens with creating a bootable CD. You can make an OS 9 bootable disc with Toast 5 if you are running Toast from OS 9, but can't do it with OS X.

My guess is this setting is the reason for your problem. If you want to create a disc that has Mac autorun for users who are running OS 9 then you need to boot your Mac in OS 9 and run Toast 5 within that OS (not Classic).

I tried to burn it without the autorun checkmarked and it still did the same error... I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible to burn hybrid on OSX anymore...

How do I boot Mac in OS 9?

You can boot into OS 9 by going to System Preferences then Startup Disk if you still have it on your Mac.
