Hello, Hoping for some help with "Easy CD & DVD Burning" product (v6.2.1.130) and I'm posting here because I don't see any forum for this product. I have a Sony Vaio ZS330, 6 months old, running XP Pro. The CD/DVD drive is Matshita and the device manager indicates it is working properly and it has worked fine all along.
I just purchased this at Best Buy, for the purpose of burning files to DVD. The install appeared to go OK, but needed to reboot twice from a prompt that indicated the registry had been changed. Also, it re-lettered my drives after C. Launched the program, attempted to burn a slideshow file to a DVD-R using "DVD Builder", and it does not recognize the drive so it cannot burn it. When going to the 'burn' dialog, the area to select/browse for a destination is greyed out. I cannot select a dvd drive.
In addition - worse problem- now my cd/dvd drive has been disabled. Doesn't work at all-- cannot read any of my existing cds or dvds, including data dvds I've created myself and commercial movie dvds. For 6 months it's worked flawlessly.
Before I de-install this Roxio product, does anyone know of a solution? Otherwise, I'll uninstall it and return it to Best Buy and have them get my drive to work again.....
Also, I do not see this product in the support lists on this site .. is it not supported?
Thanks for any help, would appreciate it, Simone

Thanks alot for the quick reply. Question -- that thread pertains to the product Easy Media Creator, and I purchased a different product "Easy CD & DVD Burning". So, you're suggesting that I should install the same patch?
Also, it's a bit worryin' to me beause the Easy CD/DVD Burning product is nowhere to be found on the Roxio website, in either sales or support. So, would I be correct in assuming it's an obsolete product? (and maybe Best Buy has a bunch of boxes left on it's shelves?)
Again, thank for the help .. appreciate it ... - S.

Basically, if your box has a label on it saying 'Vista Compatible' you have a cut down version of EMC9 - if it doesn't have the label, you have ECD6
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

ECD/DVDC 6 has a problem that's been there for a long time, that if you have hidden virtual drives (such as a restore partition) it will change the numbering.
What you have found is the typical result.
Best way out is a System Restore via Norton's Ghost, Acronis' True Image, or equal - assuming you have one.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes

This is the reason that I never used that trash Roxio version. The same thing happened to me, and I was fortunate that I had used Norton Ghost to clone my OS partition, prior to install version 6.
A restore, to a previous point, did nothing. I had to Ghost back to the cloned partition, and all was well. I moved on to EMC 7, which was great, but I can't understand why Roxio wasn't forced to take version 6 off the shelves. It went far beyond just not working correctly.

"Easy CD/DVD Burning" is a RE-ISSUE of Version 6.
Prior to said re-issue, it had been off the shelves for a couple years.
Apparently aside from that major problem, it works ok.

Thinking about the alternative to a backup with Ghost, True-Image, etc ...
Before reformatting the drive, if you can, get a different drive (new or used) to install the Operating Sytem on, and either [cheaper] an IDE-USB cable or [longer-term] a Hard Drive Enclosure you can put the old drive in (delete Easy CD/DVD Burning if you can) - that would give you a MUCH better chance of recovering data. Hopefully, you have the discs and install numbers around for installed programs.

It sure the hell wasn't off the shelves when it should have been, and any reissue now, isn't going to change the massive destruction that the product did to SOME computers. As you can see, it still happens.
