hi folks,

i got roxio's dvdmax player 2.0 in a software bundle with my plextor external dvd burner, and have been very happy using it as a dvd player. recently i built my own rig- a gaming rig, using same OS- winxp sp2, the evga680i board, an 8800gtx, and some other great components.

anyhow, i installed my roxio suite as per usual, including the roxiodvdmax. for some reason though, whenever i open dvdmax and then press play on a dvd, dvdmax just closes about 15 secs later. no error message or system hang, just immediate shutdown. i never had this problem on my earlier comp, which used the same OS. i've uninstalled the dvdmax player and done a disc defrag and cccleaner, then reinstalled, a few times now, but to no avail.

i have no viruses (according to my numerous antivirus programs) or copy protection like starforce that could mess with my dvdplayer or burner.

i did also just download the k-lite codec pack.

what might be the problem, or more importantly, the possible solution?

ps- is there a forum here that's best suited for this question? wasn't sure where to post.

thanks.

DVDMax is a very old program and I haven't seen that loose for years - basically it's just a rebadged version of Powerlink's PowerDVD
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
