I just reinstalled roxio 7.5 and both my dvd and dvd r
drive now do not show up in my computer.
There are no drives or drive letters listed.
They worked fine until i just installed roxio.
Under device manager i have yellow " ! "
not the yellow ? if that helps.
I did have a drag to disc problem but
i disabled it from startup i havent tried
to reinstall it yet.
XP home, sp2 i think. Media player 10, Expolorer 6 i think
or 5 i dont know. Its not 7.
Ramm and Hard drives are all ok here.
Please let me know which answers to follow
that work. Thanks.

Second, read the pinned post at the top of this board titled 'Drive Not Recognized By Roxio' - it is pinned because it answers a commonly asked question, and works for a lot of people.
Third, if neither the earlier part of this thread nor this post deal with your particular situation, start your VERY OWN thread with your VERY OWN information. It's like "the car has a rattle" - the same symptoms could have very many different causes, and mechanics don't apply the same answer automaticly to the same syptoms every time unless it's the same car with the same history.
As for which Version of Inernet Explorer you have - click on 'Help' at the top of the browser, and 'About' an check which Version is running on your machine. If you have Windows Auto-updates turned on, it is probably IE 7.
If you have absolutely no idea of your computer specs, download and run the Belarc adviser

.
This happened to me after I uninstalled EMC 9. My CD drive, DVD drive and even an external drive ALL had the yellow ! in the device manager.
I tried all the normal fixes and nothing worked. Drove me crazy til I found this knowledgebase article and applied the drivefix program here http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000040CR
The yellow ! disappeared and everything functioned normally again.
At the top of the first article it says that it works for version 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. You have to click the appropriate link to a second KB article.
Hope it works for you.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor window, click the Volume{GUID} folder under Drives, where GUID is a 32-character hexadecimal globally unique identifier.
Note If you have more than one CD-ROM drive in the computer, an additional Volume{GUID} folder is listed for each drive.
7. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click Drive Type.
-------
I dont see anything that says Volume or guid or any of that
in my windows/etc etc cd/drives thing.
I didnt know this could get any worse
please help me find this part
i think it might work if i get it
done
thanks so much everyone
after the uninstall and attempt reinstall of the dvd players and recorders
i see the yellow ! again and an error 37 code it has to be a microsoft

thanks.
also i found these.... http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/32716/
and
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.p...1072538#1072538
so i did this...
I googled-Windows XP Code 37. One of the sites was "Windows XP Daily News" and according to them Code 37 means the CD rom is missing. It had a link they said might fix it.
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip
I did download and run that. It worked.
DO you think this was a good idea or bad idea?
I didnt want to try a system restore point.
Ok a side note my cd wouldnt read correctly to install this. So i did it using the program
that was on my other harddrive i have hanging in the pc.
Roxio runs fine on my laptop no cd gone issues.
Now i have a question what should i do about Roxio?
Try to reinstall it on to my E drive?
I dont really have room on my C drive.
Would this cause the same problem again if i do this?
Please let me know i dont want to reintstall it if i will just lose
my drives again but the thing is what do we do?
Copy files from my laptop where it works?

As far as reinstalling Roxio I don't think it can hurt to try.If it causes it again you can always back out and rerun the fix.

I hope so. My disc might be messed up, it keeps saying insert disc.
Again i wonder... my laptop is fine is there a way to copy
the files over to my P.C?
Or just do what i did last time which was install it using
the install icon thats on my e drive.
my C drive doesnt have the space.
Whats a good route and safe?
How would i make a system restore point and use
it? That would work right if roxio messes up again?
I think i might do this-
No Napster here. No grayed-out icons either. Here's how. I copied all the files from the install disk to my desktop, removed the Napster folder and sent it to the recycle bin THEN installed. Worked a treat! 100% Napster free!! WHEE!

I did notice and old roxio file on that drive.
Maybe i should delete it all.
I did delete napster.
But now back to the "!" things and the
error 37
which is different then the other one. You guys
had the other error code asking to delete those files right.
I still dont have this...
8. In the Value data box, type 1 or 2, depending on the drive type, and then click OK.
---------
---
I'd like to try what was said there..
---
The article I pointed you at is telling you to delete the Upper and Lower filters and then reboot.I have them on my machine:

It says something is missing. I have tried reinstalling it but i bet it was part of the problem
with our drives going away to start with. I suppose i can just share the one on my laptop
if i need it. Right now all i care about is my video wave sound edit, and dvd builder;
and disc copier. Which work now.
I deleted everything of roxio off my e drive and c drive. Clear enough room on c to install
roxio like normal. It actually read my cd this time. I installed regular and not custome.
Then i just went back and hit modify to remove napster. It did knock out my pinnacle
driver but that fixed itself on the restart. The drives were gone so this time
INSTEAD of uninstalling it i just ran cdgone and did a restart. I think i nuked
something in drag to disc but my roxio is here and so are all my harddrives
and dvd and dvd rw drives.
Now it did lock up before i did the restart spyware said it was smb1 so i just blocked it
and went cntrl alt delete to stop it from running and do my restart.
Everything is PERFECT now except that drag to disc which is
a pain. I didnt delete any low filters or anything and i cant
get drag to disc to install correctly but for now I wont worry about it.
I really only use drag to if i am backing up or copying a dvd film.
Hopefully some of these last 3 days helps you guys. I can finally burn
my tv show to dvd YEAH!
LOL
ok dont forget to reinstall divx if u need it.
Also i have some cineplayer codec errors with my movie maker now
i am going to look at it anyone have an idea what my help
that one?
take care

I'd recommend that you forget about it completely and uninstall it if you can - if you just want quick backups for working purposes, get a USB 'pen' drive and use that - for long term backups, D2D is a guaranteed way to lose your data: in that case, use Creator instead and use -R discs instead of -RW.

Hmm well I dont need drag to disc yet. But i might. Unless somehow i can copy ts video
to a dvd with disc copier or dvd builder.
Right now i am making an iso i just found this
uncompatible drive dvd media
so i am going to try this fix
that someone above said
----
If after installing Roxio it is unable to see your drives yet Windows sees them ok you might try the following:
http://patches.sonic.com/PX/pxengine1_08_34a.exe
---
so problem isnt totally done until i can burn a dvd.
will that patch work? I hope...

uncompatible drive dvd media
Do you uncheck the box to burn to a DVD?
That message probably means that your DVD drive does not like the type of DVD that you have in the drive.
Visit the website of your computer/DVD manufacturer and see if they have any 'updates/firmware' for your DVD drive.
Also, see if they have a recommended list of 'brands' of DVDs. You might need to try another brand or types.

So I'm not updating to IE 7 because it has it's own security problems and I still want to use the software I purchased.
I have IE 6 and still have the same drag to disc issues.
Is there another way to burn my TS video folder
to dvd? Its not ISO.
Will disc copier let me or something else?
I dont know if it makes a dvd disc.
Ok i tried disc copier. I thought it would put the folder
onto dvd. It got 90 percent and stopped.
I dont know if it finsihed or crashed.
I would try it again but i am going
to reinstall napster and drag to disc.
So if that works will come back and let you know.
Or if not i will try disc copier again or
might have to get nero or something.
-------
Ok back from all that.
And a reinstall didnt work, repair install didnt work.
Doing those start run values above didnt work.
Any ideas on this one?
I got roxio to install on my lap top,
no problem. Drag to disc works but
the laptop has no dvd burner.
Maybe i can make some kind of cd iso?
and bring back to my pc and burn it?
I cant believe we are having this many problems
with this software.
Please reply if you guys have a fix...
or some way my video ts files in the folder
can become a dvd. I need some kind of
software that will organzie it properly,
a packet program of some kind right?
After running roxio zap and deleting any folders,
guess what. I did a restart and the message poped
up on desktop. Couldnt load missing compoents.
Now if roxio is gone why is my pc still showing
me this message? I thinks something somewhere
is still on here.
What if i reinstall to a different drive?
I had tried this long ago but it didnt work.
thoughts please...
Thanks

using my good copy on my laptop.
shellex.dll was in use.
So i went back to my pc. YUP
there it is even after uninstall.
A folder with Roxio and drag to disc
is still there. Guess whats inside
shellex.dll
Which i hit delete but tells me some program
is using it and it cant be deleted.
I bet once i get rid of it i can reinstall a working
roxio with drag to disc?
I also noticed by jpegs are associated with roxio.
Roxiops7.jpg
that has something to do with my roxio selecting,
???
Well i changed the properties of shellex.dll
and was able to delete it, even if it
said other programs might use it.
Do u think if i now install roxio with
drag to disc it will work?
Then i can delete napster i hope
and hopefully it dont mess with
my dvd drives and drive letters...
what do u guys think so far?
