I've been using EMC 8 for a while now to edit slideshows and movie clips and have made a couple of dvds that play in some newer dvd players, but most of the time the dvds do not play properly or are not recognised as valid by anything other than a computer's dvd player. When i open the dvd in explorer i can see a ts video directori but no ts audio directory and additionally there is a roxio folder on the dvd and i'm not sure why that is there.

Can anyone tell me if this is compliant with the commercial standard for dvd productions?

Is this the best way to author the dvd?

any help is appreciated.

Yes it is.  If it plays in some DVD players, and not in others, the others don't like the media that you are using.  Try a different type/brand for those players.

Thanks Grandpabruce, I'll try some better media, any suggestions?

Also, on the created DVD there is a folder called "ROXIOPLASMA" and there is a folder called VIDEO_TS but no AUDIO_TS which is what i was expecting to see from looking at commercially produced DVDs.

Does the DVD player look for an AUDIO_TS folder (even though it may contain 0 bytes of data) when attempting to play the disk, and will the presence of teh roxioplasma folder be a problem?

When i made my first DVD, i also saved and ISO of the project, is it better to burn the DVD's from the image using roxio's disk copier at say 1-2X speed? I couldn't find a way to control the burn speed from the Create DVD application.

Finally, Although i managed to play the DVD on some players, the menu titles would not highlight when selected, making navigation difficult.  Any ideas re cause?

many thanks for your help

I use Verbatim media and have not had any bad burns.

There is actually no need for an Audio_TS folder, and the RoxioPlasma folder is normal, with this software.  It is not a problem.

ISO is a better route to go than burning directly to a DVD, from MyDVD.  I burn at 4x-8x for all of my video productions.  You should update the firmware for your DVD burner.

I don't know why your titles can't be highlighted.

In My DVD, once you have added your movies, click one of the movies and select settings. There is a check box for highliting on selection. Make sure that you also select a theme for the highlighting that will not cause just a large color splott..

You might be able to highlight your titles if you press the "Shift" button on your DVD Player Remote Control. I had to experiment around with my remote until I finally got the titles to light up separately. I've used the Easy Media Creator 5 and 8 successfully until recently, so I have lots of DVD's that play just fine on DVD Players.

Thanks all, for the help, I tried to look at settings for a movie in myDVD, but can't access the dialouge box displayed in your post, when i rightclick the title, the last item in the option box is show settings, but this option is greyed out. Do i have a bad install? everything else seems to be working fine.

Is it worthwhile upgrading to EMC 9?

Thanks very much

Probably not. Unless you have the EMC 8 Deluxe suite, I believe that option is grayed out. In the v 8 line there were multiple "versions" of the suite and stand alone products, and only the Deluxe Suite had all options available. This is not the case in the v 9 suite. In EMC 9 all options are available. The difference in the Deluxe is only additional programs and the Dazzle capture device.

You can check out v 9 using the Trial version if you are interested.
