I have a few questions that I need answered in order to make a decision to upgrade or not.

Does EMC 8 support mpeg4?

Does EMC 8 support widescreen 16x9 ratio?

I've been using Nero for the above functions and I want to just used one sofwear for all my needs instead of using diffrent programs for different things.  Thanks.

Mike

OPPPs one more question.

Somtimes I have partial DVD's copied (eg. a single scene or 2).  I have no problem converting to mpg on nero, yet roxio doesn't seem to want to do that. Thanks again.

Yes and No, if you want MP4 support, the answer is no.  But you can create files using Microsoft's MPEG4 codec and DivX.

Yes, widescreen is fully supported in Videowave and MyDVD 8.  You can even combine 16:9 with 4:3 video and it works flawless.  Videowave will just letterbox the appropriate file.  Like creating a 16:9 Project and then add a 4:3, VW8 will add bars to the sides to make it 16:9.

Depends on how the disc was created.  If it is a 'true' video DVD disc, then Media Import should have no trouble.  Media Import can also read DVD VR discs.

Until they provide the patch they been promising since the second day it came out I would hold off.  Granted, some folks have no problems whatsoever (which I find hard to believe), a majority of us have had minor to major issues.

Unless you really like excess stress and frustration, i'd wait till I see they issued a patch.

I wouldn't say a majority of users are having problems.  From what little info I've read, there are a lot less users having trouble with the first release of EMC8 than previous versions.  I have installed and uninstalled EMC8 more times than I can count trying to duplicate problems. I haven't had a single problem on either of the machines listed below.  As Ripley would say... 'Believe it or not'.

Not saying he is right or wrong but I think the majority of people would just put the program back in its box at the first problem, instead of going on the net forums, even more if those people belong to the people interested in the "EASY" of EASY MEDIA CREATOR.

Quite possible.  I put version 6 back in the box, after it totally scrambled all of my hard drive partition letter assignments.  I tried it twice, and if not for Norton Ghost, I would have been in a world of hurt.

I never did try again, to get version 6 up and running.  It was garbage, IMHO, yet I  must have been in the minority for not being able to get it to work properly.  I have had no problems at all, with versions 7, 7.5, or 8.0.

LOL!  I have not clue how they could improve on Ghost.  I actually use the 2003 version, because I still have a floppy drive and do not want to install Netframe to be able to use my 2005 version.  With the floppy version, you don't even need to have Ghost installed on your computer.

Ghost is so simple to use, and I have never had a problem in "ghosting" back, since I first started using it in 2000.  It has saved me many times, where System Restore may get you back, SOMETIMES, but for the most part, is impotent.

Edit:  I forgot that the newest version of CinePlayer installed NetFrame, so maybe I will give the 2005 version a go.

I have a couple of questions about EMC 8.0; which I have not yet bought.

1. I currently have EMC 7.5 installed; when installing 8.0 is there any danger of losing anything that was created under 7.5, such as a slide show?

2. I understand there is a patch for 8.0; did I see the size right - is it over 100mb?

Thanks,

Robert

You can have 7.5 & 8 installed at the same time.  I don't have any previous projects that I neede to keep so I always start all over. We have seen some people post that they had problems opening previous projects in V8.

The updated version 8.05 may already be on shelves in your area and you may not have to download the patch. To answer your question, I believe the file is about that size.

The unfortunately thing is that there was this company called PowerQuest, who had a product called V2I and it was awesome for imaging servers, as it could do it wile the server was still running, and also then let you restore fast back again from the image, but in symantec's big boys do big things type of mode... they thought that Ghost was to slow and to simple, so they bought PowerQuest and re-badged there ghost all over the product and added a few small things to it...
Now ghost is a awesome product , i use it, version 2005, but i refuse to use the new one as they have screwed the V2I even with there tampering... we ended up dropping it from our enterprise environment because of this.... so roll on the last versions of ghost....(made in New Zealand by a guy in his basement for just this simple use, paid him 3 million for the code and now look how they have killed a great product)

This being the case, I wonder if you could tell me which applications are mandatory installs when using the "custom" install option. All I really need from version 8 is Music Disc Creator however based upon previous experiences with version 7 and 7.5 there will be certain components of the suite that cannot be de-selected. Reason for asking... my PC is already fairly heavy with multimedia programs so less is better.

Thanks!

I would bet it says Version 8, since the patch is only an update, not an upgrade.  The newer boxes on the shelf may already be updated to 8.05.  If there was anything about it being updated to 8.05, it would probably be in small letters, somewhere on the box.

I wish I had Ghost on my machine now. After 3 days of searching the forum and trying all the patch and fixes, I've finally given up on EMC 8. Nothing worked at all. And now that it's removed, my computer is a mess and it running like poop. I have never ever had this much trouble with a piece of software. Bugs? no, more like a swarm of locusts. I didn't realize you had to be Bill Gates to load this software. Wow, I can hardly believe this. Thank goodess you got 5 free CD-R with the box, since I now have 5 coasters. :)  I will keep trying though...maybe I'll format the drive and see if it will work better with a clean slate.

Hey Gary, I'm as interested as Bruce is to see some real factual information about how many copies of EMC 8 have been sold and USED and how many think it is a great program with very little bugs and who thinks it still need a lot of work before it's another great program, compared to the older versions of EMC.

I have been a member of this and the older forum for quite some time now and I have been reading many of the EMC 8 posts and find it hard to believe that it has very little problems. That's exactly why I haven't purchased it yet as I guess I'm one of those persons that is very particular about how any program reacts with my computer system.

Maybe we should start a new poll on the matter :)

I have seen some references to Norton Ghost in a couple of entries enabling the recovery to an earlier time on the computer.  If an entry was made to the System Recovery software in Windows XP right before any change - such as installing EMC 8.0 - and there was a problem, shouldn't that enable the restoration back to a known good point prior to any installation that caused a problem?

Just wondering.

Robert
