After the latest Microsoft patches I am unable to copy an unprotected DVD from my hard disk to a disk. When I select the folder to copy, the program closes with no messages. I tried reinstalling/repair the software but get the same problem. Has any ne else run into the same problem after the Microsoft patches? Where can I find the dowloadable patches for EMC 9?

The patch for EMC9 hasn't reached the servers yet, so that part can't be answered I'm afraid.

I never noticed any problems with the operation after the latest MS patch cycle, but then I select carefully the 'optional' ones and if they don't apply to me, I don't install them (same for IE7 and WMP11 - I don't want either so I made sure I didn't get them).

It's just possible that WMP11 could be the problem - it has very tight DRM and it may have decided that you can't copy the DVD (but that's pure guesswork here)
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

No problems here either, and I do have both IE 7 and WMP 11 on XP home SP2 all updates, including this month's set.
I tried disc copier, CD\DVD copy and video compilation (selecting one of the items on the DVD disc), save to folder. Created the folder from within the app, renamed it, etc. Woorked as expected. Also tried Media import, save to folder also worked fine.
It may be that the problem you are encountering has nothing to do with the XP updates, just coincidental that it occurred after you updated. If you really think the updates caused the problem, you could try a system restore prior to installing the updates (Windows update created a restore point called software distribution service 2.0 before installing updates). Or you could try uninstalling the updates from add/remove.
The latest updates I got on 8 May were cumulative security update for IE 7 (931768) and Update for XP (930916).
