I am new at this but I know that I need help.  I just bought Compaq Presario SR2173WM.  I can copy dvd in roxio but i keep getting message that i don't have correct blank dvd in drive to copy to.  I have a lightscribe dvd burner I think and am trying to use Maxell DVD+R.  Please someone help me.  Is it my burner, dvd or the roxio program.

EMC gets the info from the firmware in the drive. This tells it what speeds you can use, media types,etc...
First thing to do is make sure you have the latest firmware for your drive.Next make sure that the type of media you're trying to use is compatible with the drive. You can use DVD Info Pro and it will tell you what types of media your drive will use.

I am a real rookie at this and didn't quite understand where to get the info you told me to look for

If you running Vista, I'm not sure the path. Try start, all programs, copy,
Disc copier. Don't use the Home screen, or Record Now Copy.

put your blank DVD in
go to Start -> All Programs -> Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 -> Home
once it's launched, go to Tools -> Disc Information

What are listed for Selected Drive and Inserted Disc?

Help!  I just started having a similar problem.  I was burning DVDs the other night and then when I put the next one in, Roxio all of a sudden ejected it and I am now getting the message 'Please insert a blank or rewriteable CD into the HL-DT-ST DVDRW DL (E:) drive.' for every DVD+R I try putting in to burn to.

I have tried 2 different brands of dvd+r that i have used numerous times, all are blank.  When I open the disc in Explorer, it recognizes it as blank.

When I first insert the disc, in Roxio, the disc legend down in lower corner shows 'DVD+R' 4.4GB Free and it is all gray.

The file that I am trying to place on disc is an .iso file.

When I look at Tools>Disc Information, it shows DVD+R, Blank media.  Free Space shows 4,482.6 MB, Used Space 0.0 MB.

As soon as I select Copy>Burn Image, the disc down in lower corner now shows 1.4 GB free and is now shaded yellow for about 3/4 of it.

I've checked my drivers on dvd-rom, and it said it was the most up-to-date.

I'm on Vista, and this program was installed on my system when I got it.
Roxio Creator Basic v9
Version: 9.0.114

Does anyone have any suggestions???

Thanks,
Janel

Yours isn't the same problem as the OP's.  You are trying to make copies one after the other, and sometimes it will spit it out.  Close the program, reboot, and try again.  A royal pain, but if it works, it is worth it.
