I receive the message that (must install roxio easy media creator 8 before installing the content) and the disk won't run when I put the disk into the drive automatically. Nothing that I do will start the disk.

The question here is obvious. Did you install the Program Disk first? If so, reboot, and install the Content Disk.
And, if it is EMC 8, which would make the post in the wrong forum, after you reboot, open a program like Creator Classic, close out, then try to install the Content Disk.

Another thing is if it is V8 then it is not Vista compatible and WONT work under it.
