I bought a new pc in late February. It came preloaded with Vista and plenty of performance to handle video editing and photo manipulation ( the reason I bought it in the first place). I've got a Dell with a duo core processor and 4GB of RAM so things ought to be good.
The key word is OUGHT to be good. Soon after I got it I loaded all my software which includes EMC9, and since then I had nothing but trouble.
Right now after reloading Vista for the 4th time, and not updating any drivers the system seems to be happy. I've yet to load EMC9 yet, but want/need to.
Can you point me to a link walk me step-by-step what I should do to help me load Roxio and actually have it work?
Thanks,
Ashford

First, did your PC come with pre-installed video software? Some of the newer PC's have Roxio included. What kind of trouble were you having? Some (like me) have Vista installed without any problems while others have had nothing but trouble.
We are all anxiously awaiting an update to v9 which is supposed to deal with problems with Vista.

Sorry for the lasck of details. My PC did indeed come with a version of Roxio. It was Roxio Creator DE. When I attempt to install EMC9, it asks me to uninstall the previous version. As to the exact problems I think I ran into the invalid registration issue, but then once installed it simply didn't perform some of the basics. Functions wouldn't work. Which ones? It's been weeks since I did this, but perhaps a link to the proper steps to insure a clean install would resolve what I experienced in the past. As I mentioned, right not EMC9 is NOT on my system, but the DE version is.
Thanks, and if I've left anything else off I'll be glad to fill in the blanks.

Use the clean install method found here instead of allowing Roxio to uninstall the previous version. This way, you are truly starting off clean. Then try installing the full version and see if that works. As I mentioned, many have had problems and are waiting for the updated version that is supposed to be Vista compatible.

I too just got a brand new laptop with Vista on it... and at first, EMC 9.5 Premier didn't work properly HOWEVER, this is another Vista annoyance.... I did what the previous posters did and tried reinstalls and everything just to learn that all I needed to do was "right click" the Roxio program I wanted to open and go to properties... go to the compatibility tab and at the VERY BOTTOM is a check box to "run as administrator"... This solved my problems....
Also, some other programs may not fully take this action... in these cases you need to go to your program files and find the main .exe file, right click it, go to compatibility tab (2nd one) and at the bottom is same check box to "run as administrator).... this should solve the issues...
I'm no expert but am being forced to learn all these little configurations as I go... seems I have more to learn...
Hope this helps...

Vista is very particular about what it lets you install and I've already turned off the very annoying UAC but you are correct, you should have to install software as administrator. Thanks for this info which I always forget to take into account.
Just to make sure you don't confuse anyone, there is no 9.5 Premier as far as I know and we're all waiting for the update which is 9.1.

I've given up on Vista again. I installed a program designed to tweak some of the settings and didn't even really use it but found that a lot of my icons had zoomed up to the "Extra Large" size and wouldn't shrink back to normal size. Uninstalled the app and tried to run System Restore and no joy. Got tired of looking at it, pulled up a couple older Barracuda drives, set up a RAID0 and installed Windows XP Pro x64. Works a lot faster.

Does all this mean that the version they sell as "Vista" is not compatable with Vista?
See my topic about being unable to install Roxio on Vista

Thanks for all your tips. I haven't had time to go for it yet, but will try to get to it tonight and let everyone know how it went.
What is the link for the error message, if I get it, saying that the serial number isn't recognized?
TIA,
Ashford
