I bought it, retail, thinking it would be a good addition to my Vista ThikPad... wrong move!
I listen to radio everyday, and sometimes I watch PBS online. Well, after the installation, WMP11 would just flat out crash, I would get driver errors, the CinePlayer DVD decoder didn't work. And to top it all off, I tried to not clog the phone lines at Roxio, so I started a self-service ticket, where I explained that I had followed the procedures for a clean reinstall not once, not twice, but three times, to no avail. What answer do I get, ONE WEEK later? "Do a clean reinstall with the instructions found on this link. Oh, and by the way, if the DVD decoder doesn't work with WMP11, just use the player in EMC9". What kind of an answer is that?
Look, I don't usually leave negative feedback for products, since I understand that oftentimes it's the user's fault, or the hardware is not right, or what have you. Furthermore, while I am not a computer engineer, I am a pretty savvy computer guy, and I almost always solve any problems on my own, without contacting support. But this time was just nightmarish. I just can't believe that Roxio labels something as Vista compatible, and then the program is just a constant source of problems. This should be labeled as false advertising.
In any event, I had to reach for the final solution - I just uninstalled EMC9 last night, and the computer is working like a charm, back to normal. I doubt that I will be able to get a refund, so I am out 70 bucks, and many hours of my time. But I won't buy, nor will I recommend, EMC9.
P.S. No this is not a hit and run, I am just one pissed off guy, registered with Roxio, who has been unable to get redress for this situation.
