I have read just about every post and FAQ I can on this.... Whew!!!  smile.gif

I currently am running Easy CD creator 5 with an older burner and it has DirectCD installed although I almost never use it.  I am adding a DL burner and want to install EMC9 on my XP SP2 machine and have a few questions.

I found a post that listed the custom install options (very helpful) and I intend to install only:
Creator classic, Disc Copier, Roxio Backup, Label Creator, Music Disc Creator, Sound Editor, and Easy Audio Capture.  (I use standalone video and photo editing apps so hopefully that is all I am losing here). Considering "disc image loader" although it appears some have had issues with it.  If it works without problem, looks like a nice tool.

1. What other modules will I "get" with these selections that I did not bargain for?  It sounds like some of the modules are not listed here as options.  Looks like the DVD player for one?  Is Disc Image loader worth it?

2. One audio capture question:  Does it embed itself in your sound mixer or is it a standalone app?  I have something similar already with the creative sound mixer and I sure don't want conflicts.  This does seem to have a few more bells and whistles though so would not mind having it.  Is this required to rip CD to MP3? Or is that the disc image loader that allows you to do DAE?

3. My plan was to keep the old Easy CD creator basic/OEM 5 software on there because I saw a KB that said they could co-exist. Well actually, the KB/FAQ was for EMC8 not 9 but it said that you didn't need to uninstall 5 for 8 so I hope that is the case for 9!  Strangely, I could not find a similar document for EMC9.
Will EZCD5 and EMC9 play nice together?  See my irrational fear of uninstall below!

4. I really do not want to install Drag-to-disc but I see that you cannot de-select it from the custom install list in EMC9 although you could in 8.  Makes no sense to me but that appears to be what I read.
But if I don't want to install drag-to-disc but I have the old DirectCD installed currently, is the EMC9 install process like 8?  Will I get a prompt that says...if you want to replace DirectCD with drag to disc, do this, if not, etc.etc.....or does it just blow away DirectCD and install itself?  Then I saw that FAQ for 9 says if you don't want it, uninstall it after the install.... Strange.

5. My concern: If you go through all of the above with DirectCD and Drag to disc...do you run into that "lost DVD/CD burner drive issue?"  With the upper/lower filters registry settings, etc??? I would really rather not deal with that. If that is the case, I'll just leave it on the system which is why I would rather just leave EZCD5 on the system and quite frankly a strong reason for me to stay with Roxio.  When I do serious video edit burns, etc. I kill all processes anyway so the packet writing software gets shut down.  Or, will the process of installing Drag to disc and it's uninstall of DirectCD cause me to deal with that "lost drive" issue?

Thanks in advance for any help,

BJBBJB

Drag to Disc is installed automatically with EMC9 so the old DirectCD will HAVE to be uninstalled before anything else.

Anyway - both are packet writing programs and have a reliability factor slightly lower than a snowflake in Death Valley.

If you have stuff that you copied over using DirectCD, copy it back to the hard drive (if it's still readable that is) and then burn it to a CD-R in the normal manner (at least it stands a better chance of survival)

Once EMC9 is installed, certainly remove D2D (most of us do as a matter of course)

Thanks.  Should I uninstall DirectCD manually first or does EMC9 do it?
And most importantly out of my several questions....if I uninstall it will I lose my drives and have to go through all that nonsense?
Ditto the uninstall of drag to disc.

I have no intention of using either product.  I am just trying to figure out the most painless way to navigate the install/uninstall mombo.

Thanks,

I'd uninstall it manually before loading up EMC9 - EMC9 doesn't give an option whether or not D2D is installed - it puts it in anyway but it can be removed after installation (it's a separate entry in add/remove programs in control panel)

Whether or not your drives 'disappear' is something no-one can foresee. They shouldn't (but that doesn't mean there's no chance). It's just one of those things that occasionally happens but it's well covered in the forum as to how to get them back.

gi7omy,

I got some good install advice here so I came back to this install forum...  I did take the advice during my EMC9 install and all went well apparently.  It burns, everythin works, etc.  My problem which I posted in usability here according to Roxio online chat "support" is now an install issue?

The issue as documented is that in my full retail version of EMC9 suite, under project settings, I do NOT have the checkbox option for "do not split files in multi-disc projects".  It is not that it is greyed out, that line is not there!  No it is not an OEM version.... The folks in the usability section have been very helpful, but noone there has seen it either.  The suspicion was I somehow got an OEM or lite version but that does not appear to be the case.  Although with the level online support I received I cannot vouch for that.

Don't want to cross-post but now Roxio is telling me even though they have never heard of this issue, and they don't know if it will fix it....they want me to uninstall and do a clean install of EMC9!  Does this sound like any install issue that you have heard of????  I mean everything else works...it burns, all is well.  I don't want to go through an uninstall/reinstall just because they don't know what it is.  There HAS to be a reason...

If they would say, "yes it is a known issue and this fixes it" I might be up for it but it sounded like "we don't know what to do so why don't you try to go through all that again"....

Thanks again,
BJBBJB
