How Record Dvd Of 4.7 Gb im have 4.7gb dvd +R 8x

all virgen media of dvd +R 8x im found from anywhere its 4.7gb of max size
anyone whit a windows pc and nero can record to a size of 4.7 gb but whit this same dvd media and a mac whit toast 7 cant found how force to toast to recognize the 4.7 gb size
the toast only recognize 4.38gb
in the dvd media said "8x DVD+R 4.7gb"

Toast is writing to essentially the full capacity of the DVD.
The actual capacity of a 4.7 GB disc is 4.4 GB. The reason for the difference is that a kilobyte in computer terms is 1024 bytes; but the 4.7 GB number was calculated on a kilbyte equalling 1000 bytes. It is the same reason an 80 GB hard drive doesn't hold nearly that much. The math used for calculating the size for marketing purposes is different from the math used by a computer.
